This was a fun start to the series. It was a good post apocalyptic read. Sometimes it felt a little YA in some parts and I had to remind myself that this was a book here the characters are in their early 20s

Minimal Gore but still has some so you are still getting the horror aspect.

First of all Felix Blackwell should not be writing about indigenous people while he is NOT indigenous.

This whole book centers around a couple who is basically being stalked by flesh pedestrians through out the entire book.

While this book scared me and it’s been a long time since a book scared me it could have been done without the incorporation of the indigenous people.

So please do your research. Read indigenous book by indigenous authors.

So spooky in less then 100 pages.

Jules and her daughter Scout are moving in with her new boyfriend Kirin. But some things are not adding up.

This book is so fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole entire time. We have a little bit of a mystery and a little bit of spooky all mixed into one.

I could not put this book down until I reached the last page and even then the spooks did not stop.

This book was terrifying!!

Everyone knows the plot of Bird Box. Creatures have arrived. The only problem is if you look at them, they will make you go crazy.

Because this book is not based on off site. Doing the audio was the best way to go. You felt like you were right there with the FMC.  I will be continuing with the series.

This is the driest book I think I have read for 2024

Marshall’s husband died and to help her cope. Her boss sends her on a journalist assignment to a small town where strange things are happening.

Maybe I am too dumb to read this book but I understood nothing. I felt like nothing was happening. Marshall was going there to write a story about a horse giving birth to human baby but nothing really happens until 80-90% of the book. It is the slowest burn in a horror book I have ever read.

There is so many POVs with little to no explanation on who or why these people are involved with the storyline. I felt like this book was all over the place.

The last 90% of the book was the best part.

I was wanting spooky, dark with old folklore and I did not get that.

This was a solid thriller. Decent twisty at the end. It never was boring but also didn’t put me on the edge of my seat.

This is a fun cozy horror compared to what I usually read which made for a great palate cleanser.

This is desperate housewives meets the exorcist.

This was on the light side of horror. Not a lot of gore but just a light sprinkling. I was entertained the whole time and really enjoyed it.

The last few chapters is where most of the action is but it is worth the build up. The ending was 🤯🤯 that was the perfect way to end the book.

But because I have read a lot of horror books. I’ve read better so that’s why I didn’t give it as high as a rating.

I don’t know why I keep reading these. They just keep getting worse and worse. The parents are still acting like parenting is optional.

I love this series. It was the beautiful combination of spooky and crime thriller all mixed into one.

The Steinbeck and Reed series is one of those series that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

Steinbeck and Reed are in a the Finnish Town of Alku where outsiders are usually not welcome. I love the spooky feel of this town and almost culty vibes.  We also got a mention of her other book Bloodlines. It’s fun to see the connections between the books.

Steinbeck and Reed have a great chemistry when it comes to working together and you can really see them flow together.

The plot is there and is full of twist that you won’t see coming. This is the perfect book to curl up with on a dark fall night.
