5 stars! I would read this again, and quickly hand it to any friend to usher them into the halls of this mysterious fantasy. I loved feeling udderly lost in the beginning sections and then unraveling the mystery of Piranesi page by page.

I learned a lot and I appreciated the stories that weave through the entire book. However, it was a very slow and long read for me.

An engaging read, through and through! The plot was a bit predictable at times, but I absolutely loved the main characters and the world that Avi Silver created. The astrology and worldviews Silver created for their fantasy world were interesting, and I look forward to reading the next book about Sohmeng!

Maybe it's mood today, but I finished reading this book and feel incredibly inspired in my creative pursuits. I highly recommend this book especially if you're interest in Chang's reflections on his culinary career, the world of restaurant culture in the past 20 years, and an honest discussion of mental illness.
