Loved the book! Felt incredibly cinematic and I laughed so many times cause of how much this made me think of an anime. Easy to get sucked into and the sheer love of music and what it's like in the music industry was fascinating and fun to learn!

I finished Uprooted and it gave me REALLY strong Jaime/Brienne vibes. I think it colored how I read the book and made it more enjoyable to me. The age gap was big but honestly, considering the time period of this book, it makes sense and I don't see that as a detraction from the book. That was the biggest complaint people had of the book before I read it but I'm glad its not in that grooming, "oh no I'm helpless" damsel and hero situation at all.

And shes 17 while he's a century and a half years old, an immortal. Honestly, there wasn't much romance at all, more of a, "you're the only one who has any sense in this world and I can't rely on anyone but you to back me up and fight with me and not underestimate me" kind of relationship.

It's very much more like an allyship that slowly grows into attraction, but that attraction literally has nothing to do with any of their actions in the book, both focused on their duties and doing what's best for the kingdom, themselves, and the people around them.

Anyway, the vibes were off the chart and Naomi Novik really knows how to make political intrigue interesting and fresh. Never knew what was coming next and the plot branched off into interesting directions I didn't expect from a "fairy tale" book. It felt more like a ghibli movie when it came to plot direction, so it was really interesting.

I was so into the story that I had no idea I was done with this volume and on to the next one. I'm so sucked in.

I would reread this again if I ever need a reminder why technique is important and considered a tool and what's the point of it.  I keep learning and relearning something about myself in every volume. Damn.

Definitely made me appreciate and like Ryuji's character more. And being defiant and defending your own art... Yeah, I get that. I get that way too much.
