Had a hard time getting into this but it did make me hungry (and I plan on watching the Netflix series).

I picked up "From Scratch" after being moved by its show adaptation. The show had me in tears—it was so well done, so I couldn't resist diving into the book to see what more it had to offer.
Reading the book was worth it! It fills in so many details that the show just couldn't cover. The adaptation did a great job of sticking to the story's heart, even though it changed a few things to keep it entertaining. But honestly, those changes were done tastefully and didn't take away from the overall experience.
One thing the book really nails is the daughter's story, especially how she deals with losing her dad. This part was touched on a bit in the show, but didn't get nearly as much attention. The book just dives deep into those raw emotions and the openness of the grief, both from her and from Tembi.
I also have to say, Zoe did an incredible job bringing Tembi to life in the show, capturing her character so well. All in all, if you enjoyed the show, the book is a must-read. It gives you a fuller picture and brings even more depth to the story. Recommend both if you’re looking for something heartfelt and real!

I loooved this book, I watched the series first and cried my eyes out, this book had me feeling twice as much. The love Saro had for Tembi was so beautiful and you could feel that reading the book. I loved the writing, the way Tembi described places, the people, the food, it truly transported you there.
And now my mind is stuck in Sicily and I would love to travel there someday

This is a book you have to hear. Author Tembi Locke narrates her story in such a beautiful way. The heartbreaking loss, the gorgeous Italian and the lush discoveries are part of her and the story has that extra layer in her voice. I rarely give 5 stars but this book conjured up so much beauty and emotion that it was more than listening to an audiobook- it took me to another place and unlocked worries and love I didn’t realize I had. So well done!

Interesting story, I learned a lot about Sicily! Beautiful descriptive writing, but it is a very sad story. Tembi Locke describes her grief in detail. It is hopeful at the end. So many analogies!
