This took me a long time to get through. It just never fully captured me. It feels like stories you tell your friends, but they need to know you to not have it all seem a little dull or trite. She's brave to put her feelings and experience out in this way.

I really enjoyed the author's story about finding love, following her dreams, and coping with grief. She recounts the beautiful, romantic way that she met and started dating her husband, Saro, while studying abroad as a student. Over 20 years they built a beautiful life together with their daughter, but his parents never approved because she was a Black American woman. Despite her pain and frustration at this, she was determined to reconcile with his family - a slow, emotional process that would sadly only begin after Saro's passing. Throughout this story, Tembi weaves in the vibrant culture and comforting flavors of Sicilian food, offering nourishment for the body and soul.

I do not rate memoirs as I feel like it’s unfair to rate  someone’s life experiences

Not my favorite memoir I’ve read. Very heart warming story.

Poignant story of love & loss. I cried 3 times in the first 100 pages. Beautifully heartbreaking & tender. If you’re looking for nonfiction, this is it.

I seen the show last year, and I had to see what the book was about or see the differences and similarities.
It was well written beautifully and sad.
