What’s better than this

Description:
After shooting and permanently paralyzing his daughter Barbara (a.k.a. Batgirl), the Joker kidnaps the commissioner and attacks his mind in hopes of breaking the man.

But refusing to give up, Gordon maintains his sanity with the help of Batman in an effort to beset the madman.

My Thoughts:
Holy s**t! That was good. [b:Batman: The Killing Joke|96358|Batman The Killing Joke|Alan Moore|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1346331835s/96358.jpg|551787] is as great as everyone says it is. If your a fan of batman or the joker. This is a must read. The story was short and jam packed with awesomeness. The art was great. Also the joker felt like the traditional joker you think of when you think of batman. Lastly Oh my god jokers backstory. His history mad you feel for him a bit. I actually felt sympathy for the joker! What?!? Insane i know. lol

Τέλειο απλά. Το τελείωμα πολύ δυνατό αρκεί να το καταλάβεις.

This was dark, like really dark, but I think we all knew what we were getting into. I think that this was well done. And even though I'm not very much of a DC fan and I'm definitely not a fan of batman, I am interested in the Joker and what makes him tick so reading this was interesting to me.

There were parts of this that I liked. I thought that Joker’s origin story was set up well in the idea that all it takes is the mounting stress of the world around you and one day of tragedy to break a person. I also liked the parallel between Joker’s “killing joke” and his dynamic with Batman. The parts I didn’t like, however, was about Babs and Gordon.
It makes sense for Joker to shoot Babs without a second thought; that’s what he does. But for her (as a fully fledged character who exists as a person outside of Batman and her dad) to be treated as a means to get to Gordon and Batman instead of someone who just had her entire life changed felt icky to me. She was completely discarded after Batman visited her in the hospital, except when Gordon was shown photos of her in pain and naked.
It was hard to watch, not just because Joker is evil, but also because it’s hard to see a fantastic character be so mistreated by the writers. I have heard she gets better characterization as Oracle later, so I am hoping that she can be treated with more respect.

So, I wasn’t sure how to feel about this. On the one hand, I didn’t super get what was going on at all or the deeper meanings so there’s that. On the other hand, this was so deeply misogynistic and ableist at how Barbara Gordon is treated. It’s so disrespectful and gross to have her treated like this just to give emotional pain for the men in her life. I didn’t care for it.

Alan Moore is phenomenal at portraying characters in a dark and twisted light, and he does it again here perfectly. A short but great comic series with an iconic backstory that helps give some life to an iconic bad guy.
