A short (and not quite) sweet read for this cult classic of a comic.
I found the Joker's design as striking and impactful as Batman/Bruce (and incidentally, every other character) was unimpressive and generic. I'am probably too harsh because I'm not a fan of the same-face syndrome that plagued american comics in the 80s.
As for pacing and content, I was surprised by the lack of detective skills or savviness of Batman (he was handed the answer on a platter after brutalizing thugs here and there ; felt unearned and the whole sequence of him looking for clues around Gotham like fillers), he seemed more like a brutish and impatient cop to me than an eccentric rogue detective.
The final confrontation was a tad underwhelming, with the Joker seemingly barely prepared to welcome the nemesis he had invited to his party. Overall, I found the dialogue a bit odd, very matter-of-factly, and I found the section when Joker finds out about his wife too quick and weirdly put together. But I also understand that none of this, none of these specific moments were the focus of the story, so it's just nitpicking on my part. Not bad, just kind of slight and very dark (obviously). It was okay, but didn't really sick with me too much, though I definitely see how The Dark Knight movie was partially based on it.

All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day.
Alan Moore never disappoints, and the art by Brian Bolland is wonderful. Dense and rich storytelling in barely 50 pages. I'm not well-versed in Batman comic canon, but I can see why this is considered such a classic and appreciated it even as a very casual fan.

For some, the big draw of this book is that is shows Joker's "origin," but for me, that wasn't the compelling part (although the art on that is beautiful).
Moore's storyline is fascinating and terrible (in a dark sense and not in a badly written sense), and if you aren't moved by certain parts of this book, you have no heart. It's a key part in why the Joker/Batman fight is so important to Batman.

really getting into Batman and I loved this telling of who joker is and how he came to be.
