THE quintessential Batman story. Explores the true madness and cruelty of the Joker, and also that other fellow Gotham-ites.
The re-colouring by Brian Bolland adds a whole new depth to this story, particularly the flashbacks with mostly black and white with some highlights.
I can see why people view the treatment of Barbara Gordon as problematic. She only appears to be shot as a means of Joker driving Commissioner Gordon insane. That being said, I love that it helped create Oracle.
I find the discussions around the ending of this book interesting, although I prefer to subscribe to the idea that Batman remains true to his ideals, at least in part because it's literally what he's talking about just before the ending.
At any rate it's a solid Batman story that works in part because it's so direct.

Read this online in about 30 minutes. Was going to buy it and I still might. Really shows the dark side of the joker and gave me a good comic fix for awhile. It was not the grandest literature I've ever read but it's still up there.

Not much to say about this one. An absolute classic by one of the best comic book writers of the era. The graphic novel that defines the Batman/Joker relationship.
This is probably one of those books that you should read even if you're not into comics or superhero stories.

It’s a classic for a reason. There’s a lot that it does with the graphic novel format that feel like it really understands the medium. It gives great nuance to teh Batman/joker relationship, something completely lacking in its treatment of women and the concept of “freakishness”
Batman: The Killing Joke is a good, well-written, and fast-paced graphic novel that does a great job of providing an origin story for the Joker. The theme of the novel, that one act of random cruelness can turn a normal man into a monster, is an interesting question that works well when related to the character of Batman who sees monstrous acts daily. But what really stands out from the story is the bizarre ending that many people have interpreted differently. My personal interpretation is the simplest one (without giving away spoilers) but I understand why other people interpret the ending differently which makes for an interesting comic to talk about with others.
I'm a Batman fan, I love the darkness in and around him. To of the pile of his adversaries is The Joker. It's is an excellent one shot drawn incredibly well by my favourite artist Brian Bolland who used to work on 2000AD / Judge Dredd. With Brian Moore's story this is a killer offer for fans. Wonderful.
