Not a winner for me. I actually really like Tate James’s writing, but her final books in a series pretty are disappointing. Just too much, too rushed, and it leaves it all a bit sloppy feeling. I’ll keep reading her but it’s not a trend I’ll give too much leeway. I would like to see a more mature Heroin as well but reverse harems have a pretty low bar for me.

2/5 for the whole series. It was ok.

So good!

What a great ending to Zarina's story! I love that it didnt feel rushed at all. When I was reminded that this whole series took place over 3 weeks I was flabbergasted. Definitely looking forward to more stories from this universe!

I loved this entire series and it was an amazing ending! The extended epilogue was just the perfect bow ontop.

My only complaint is that my brain got a little confused with all the new characters that got introduced (Allys and gods) and keeping their names straight. But once I figured it out and paused for a minute it really adds to the story!

Even with the complaint still a 5/5 star for me! Loved jt

I'm glad Royals of Arbon Academy kind of prepped me for this series because this series went left and I was still going right! Don't get me wrong, it's a fun series overall. It's a quick read, spicy enough to be spicy (but it's rather tame for a RH series and from Tate James), but also has enough of a plot. I can't say I'm in love with everyone in the series. I did do better with distinguishing between the guys by the end because you definitely get the different personalities between the princes, but...I never really loved the world and story. It's fun enough to go for the ride, though, and made me think of The Selection in ways.

SUMMARY: (SPOILER WARNING)

Zarina (formerly Rybet) has a lot going on. The final trial is upon her and she is bound by a blood oath to go through with it, even though she is the rightful heir to the throne.

But beyond the trial, she has assassins trying to kill her, secret alliances to form, former allies to pacify, and a relationship with three princely boyfriends to navigate.

As she tries to learn more about her mother, her magic, and survive the final trial before beginning her reign as Queen of Teich, she has a long ways to go before she reaches the finish line.

REVIEW:

This was okay. Honestly I expected a little more oomph for the final installment of the trilogy. It was a little slow moving and boring and I had a few other issues. But it was still pretty entertaining and I enjoyed the story overall.

As far as the plot goes I think it all played out pretty nicely. I like how a lot of it wrapped up. There are a few hints at continuing Zarina's story as well as a spinoff for Sage. But it seems like Tate lost interest because she hasn't written any more for this world in quite awhile. Kind of sucks and I don't like that it was left that way. To be clear it doesn't leave with a cliffhanger and it's still a HEA as far as the relationship goes. It's just hinted that there is a war to come and more story to tell. And it was definitely setup to give Sage her own series and RH, but I'm not sure if that will ever happen. :(

Now even though the plot was interesting, the pacing was very slow. I did have a hard time pushing through a few times there because it was a bit boring.

The other issue I had was the RH dynamic is the "I'll share if I have to but I don't like it" as opposed to liking and wanting to share. I really dislike this dynamic and it leaves a sour note over the whole relationship IMO. So yeah, that was not fun for me.

I was also disappointed by the low steam in these books. I figured since it was Tate that we would get some pretty steamy scenes. And a few of them were good. But they were very few and far between. And a lot of the scenes were basically fade to black, which is boring and lame.

Overall, the overarching plot and world created here is super interesting and entertaining. The pacing for the first two books was perfect, but this one was rather slow. I wasn't a fan of the RH dynamic, but I liked the characters overall. Not the best RH, but still a fun read.

A bit predictable and repetitive but overall a good book
adventurous emotional fast-paced

This trilogy started off in the most amazing way and now it’s at a point where it’s just lost the spark. The plot is dragging its feet through sludge and you can TELLLLLL. I just wanted to find out what happened after that cliffhanger and yeah. Now that I’ve seen what’s on the other side, disappointed doesn’t even sum it up for me. It could have been carried on, in a much better manner but the way the author lost the readers interest, slowly but surely, tells me all I need to know for how the ending is going to feel at the end. I’m all about fair chances, but we have to be realistic, and this constant downward spiralling slope of the plot is quite alarming for me as a reader.

Although this trilogy started off by getting me out of my reading slump, it’s put me right back into it by not being all I had hoped for it to be. Going to have to find the next book to pull me out of this mess. :/

Lacklustre ending. Left me with more questions than answered. Felt like they put duct tape on the plot lines and marked them resolved.
