Re-read the 2nd edition, which contains 50% more new content, and yeah, this book is the one for fundamental change. Specifically someone dealing with rumination, persistent anxiety, panic attacks, agoraphobia, insomnia, paranoia, those types of issues (y), there's a lot of practical, simple strategies that ACTUALLY HELP and PROVIDE RELIEF in this book so I can't recommend the 2nd edition enough.

So honestly, I think the approach outlined in this book could be life-changing, provided you're a) in the right place to start this work, ideally with the support of a trusted mental health professional, and b) the ACT framework gels with you on an intuitive level. It's definitely given me a lot to consider! Side note, I drew a tarot card today telling the story of Robert the Bruce in the context of endurance, and now later that same day I come across the exact same story in this book in the context of commitment o_o

this book changes my life! Pretty apprehensive about “self-help” books generally as they feel condescending and set unattainable standards, but this book feels like the antithesis of all the others. not every technique inside resonates with me but it’s not meant to be a “one size fits all” and the techniques that do coincide with me certainly feel achievable. Helps that my therapist has referenced several of the techniques in our sessions.

Real answers to some of life's biggest struggles. I love (and no practice) stopping the struggle with difficult emotions and instead allowing them. It's so nice to have a better guide for my behavior... Tune into what truly, deeply matters and use that as a guide for life. How could you go wrong?

For anyone who struggles with worry, anxiety, self-doubt, or stress, this book offers a solid way to move forward. Highly recommend!

What I love about this book is that it gives you specific exercises to do and actions to take and breaks those down in such a way that they are not overwhelming. This book was recommended to me by a therapist who uses ACT with her patients. I do think that it may be best to work with a therapist initially if you are unfamiliar with ACT, before tackling this book on your own, because some of the concepts can be a little difficult to grasp if you haven't tried them before. I also find that mindfulness meditation is a GREAT tool to use in conjunction with this book because so many of the principles are the same. The one criticism I have of this book is that it can feel a little condescending at times, and parts of it are kind of repetitive. I also own the illustrated version of this book, and I actually prefer that version, so if you're more of a visual person, it might be worth a try.
