I like Scott's sense of humour. He writes in a way that is really easy to understand, and I have learned some great tips.
I don't know why everyone complains about the way Kelby writes, I'll take corny jokes over stuffy instructional books any day. This book is a great basic intro to all kinds of photography. It has a lot of little tips that might leave any begging/intermediate slapping their foreheads thinking "why didn't I know that".
Very helpful and practical advice from an accomplished photographer. I like conversational, up front, and not-too technical style.

Great book. A simple how-to for digital photography. I love that he doesn't go into long explanations on the theory of good technical photography. He is direct and tells you exactly how to set your camera depending on the type of photo you are taking. Kind of a cheat sheet for photography. I will definitely refer to this in the future.
I picked this up because I'm really trying to learn more about the technical aspects of Photography, and it seemed that a lot of the books were just a little further over my head than I was comfortable with. I'm glad I picked this one to start with - it's clear, easy to read (and quick!) and has lots of tips and ideas of things to do with the camera, settings, and things to practice on. I see lots of photos in my future!

This entire book is written with a brilliant premise, and here’s how Scott describes it: "If you and I were out on a shoot, and you asked me, 'Hey, how do I get this flower to be in focus, but I want the background out of focus?' I wouldn't stand there and give you a lecture about aperture, exposure, and depth of field. In real life, I'd just say, 'Get out your telephoto lens, set your f/stop to f/2.8, focus on the flower, and fire away.'
