Wonderful first novel I have read by Mr. Bentley. Would have been a five star if not for the ankle, thigh, wrist unbelievability.
This is what Vince Flynn and Brad Thor novels USED to be. Fast-paced, action-packed thrillers. I look forward to reading the next installment.

It may have taken Don Bentley a very long time to write this, but boy did he do it well. This book is one of the best ones i've read in a long time and since it is the first in a series we can only wait anxiously for the next. No pressure... I have to thank #Edelweiss #Berkley and #PenguinPublishingGroup for giving me the pleasure of reading Without Sanction. The first book about Matt Drake. It will be on the shelves on March the 3rd. I really strongly recommend this. Please @bentleydonb keep them coming.

It wasn’t bad for a first effort, but it wasn’t great either. It was a bit of meh. I like the character of Matt Drake and his best friend/handler is a hell of a character. But the plotting could use some work as it was pretty generic.
What peeves me the most was the ending. Right at the moment of truth, he has Matt rescued in the span of a few sentences. No action scene, no protracted rescue mission, no epic battle—it was just Bam and the story was over. It was as if somebody fast forwarded through all the best bits in order to show me the ending. Where I come from that’s a deal breaker.
Show your work, as they say.
I mean—you know it’s bad when you seriously contemplate not buying the next book in the series. At this point it would just be a waste of time and energy.

Excellent book. Great action, incredible main character and, unfortunately, a very real plot. One of the best military thrillers out there.

5 Stars. Wow. Absolutely great. Looks like I’m hooked on another author and series. Drake is some character. Bentley wrote a thriller that will have me coming back for everything he can deliver. I usually hate unfinished stories and cliffhangers but I think there’s a lot more here to explore. Outstanding!
I thought this was a great start to a series. It has a Logan West vibe for hardcore action with big stakes. Looking forward to more.
