In some ways, I like it. The illustrations are great. The story is cute. I would've loved a more ingenious solution, but this works, too.

Quibbles: The idea of a librarian preparing a single book for storytime is pretty incredible to me. Also, I'm not with the standing on tables and bookcases. And her crowd control is pretty weak. The librarian isn't modeling very good handling of books with her feet kicked up, using them as a footstool at the end. And hot tea and a muffin? At storytime? in the library? Nah.

Last thing: the crowd scenes. With all of the children present, we could definitely have more children of color. We get a few speckles here and there, but as a librarian of color working in a diverse library, the illustrator could've given us something more to work with visually.

Overall, it's a cute book--and humorous--if you don't think about it too long.

As a children's librarian, this book had me cracking up! I loved the looks of horror on the adult librarians' faces, and how the children's librarian just rolled with it. And even without chickens in my library, I could sympathize with the librarian's frenzied attempts to regain control of her story time when things got out of hand.

I think kids will get a kick out of this story as well as the librarians who order it. The illustrations are colorful and cartoonish, and there is a lot going on in each page to keep their attention.

Repetitive and predictable, with a librarian who has no crowd control skills and eats in the middle of the library. I see why young children would find this funny, but it's a hard pass for the library storytime I'm preparing for.

Loved this as soon as I saw the illustrations on the endpapers. Great storytime read aloud book!

A super funny book about children and chickens coming to story time. With only a few words per page this would be a great book to read to preschoolers about storytime.

This was one of my back to school read alouds in the library. The kids lived counting how many chickens showed up each day. It’s a silly story that was popular with students.
