Terrorists are a touchy subject in the United States, this book I thinks gives a face and an understanding of what people go through, why they chose to do the things they do, that they believe there are doing the only thing to free their people. Many of us may not agree with everyone but it is important to try understand them as much as possibly. Amin the main character is totally blindsided from the events that take place in the beginning., this I think gives us a new understanding of what happens to the people left in the after blast of destruction. I'm not all in like with the main character and this is why i gave it two stars. I can not relate to him, of course I get his need for answers, anyone in that potions deserves answers. The way he goes about it is selfish, dragging people who care for him through mud and rocks to only lose him anyways is wrong. Maybe that's what the author intended? I especially don't like the character for the way he treated his wife, sure he never abused her, always treated with love and showered with materials. Yet he never truly saw her as the human being she was, he put her on mantel and expected her to be a shiny bobble to please and love him. He never cared to truly know her as person loving her for the beauty he saw, and being blind to everything else. He repeatedly states things about her eyes, her smile, her body, yet rarely touching the real parts of her. What about her thoughts, her views, or even her hobbies? This I think contributed a lot to the false relationship he perceived which in turn led to the harsh reality he was hit with in the end. Overall a interesting story that gives us a different view, and hopefully for some can help to give empathy where they had none, or a least a better understanding.

I talked about this book with some men and they were stunned that the husband didn't know what the wife was doing. After hearing the stories of men who were shocked when their wives came home and wanted a divorce, I found that to be a silly observation. One of the best opening scenes I have read in a long time.
