See... this was a wonderfully written book. A great book. Susan Abulhawa is a fantistic writer. But even more so. It is a book about the daily realities of Palestinians. Especially with what is going on in Gaza today, it is important to remember to support Palestinians and their fight for liberation.

La historia se desarrolla en el seno de la familia Baraka, ofreciendo una mirada profunda y conmovedora sobre las tradiciones, los conflictos y las luchas internas de sus miembros en un contexto de cambio político y social.
La novela se centra en las vidas entrelazadas de las mujeres de la familia Baraka, destacando sus sacrificios, amores y desafíos en un entorno marcado por la ocupación extranjera y la lucha por la libertad. What a amazing and captivating book, I was unable to put it down, the book tells the story of a family in Palestine before the war begins, and with the beginning of the war so do the atrocities. This book is heartbreaking and heartwarming all wrapped together in the story of a families love. Be warned there are triggers in here that are very difficult issues (rape, child molestation), but is an engaging read regardless. It is definetly the kind of book that I could easily read again and again and would highly recommend it to others. The book is interesting as you get to see the world from more than one characters point of view and get to experience the world that they live, the culture, the language. A fantastic read.

Ik wilde voor deze Asian Readathon ook graag een boek van een Palestijnse auteur lezen.
De eerste paar hoofdstukken moest ik er even in komen, maar toen gebeurde er echt zoiets heftigs in het boek dat ik niet kon stoppen met huilen. Vanaf dat punt moest ik gewoon doorlezen. Susan schuwt grafische omschrijvingen niet, dus zeker een TW daarvoor. Daarentegen is het ook nodig om grafisch te zijn, want dat is nou eenmaal wat oorlog is.
Enige minpuntje vond ik dat ik soms zinnen een paar keer moest lezen om ze taaltechnisch te begrijpen, maar dat kan ook aan de vertaling liggen.
Dit boek heeft me ontzettend ontroerd en aangegrepen, helemaal met de oorlog die nog altijd gaande is in Gaza.
