I'd heard good things about this book, but was quite disappointed. It felt like it was skipping on the surface, dealing with the basics of the plot but not really serving the depth of the subject matter with the text. I felt neither moved nor really all that interested in it. I gave it three stars, but I'm not sure it really warrants that many either.

I am a sucker for world war 2 historical fiction, something about the stories of triumph and hope those effected had pulls me in every time, and this book has been no different. For me it was a slow start I couldn’t quiet grip the story at first and it was probably one of the longest reads I’ve had in a while, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. The message of the dead need to know they’re loved is so touching and I hope resonated with much of the audience. It also had a beautiful love story as well as educating a younger generation of the atrocity of what happened during the holocaust. Overall I really enjoyed this book and will probably pick up another one of his books.

Read if you loved All That I Am, All the Light You Cannot See, the Book Thief... literally any WW2 drama

Contains romance, false identity, concentration camps, love letters

16 year old Margot shows up to her first day of work in the mailroom at a concentration camp in what would later become Poland. She can't help herself but to read some of the letters the prisoners write & she finds herself softening her ideas about the people inside the camp to the point where she starts to look for a particular prisoner's letters

A neat & tidy look at the events that took place in Germany in 1944 & 1945 through the eyes of a very sweet & sheltered young German girl

I tend to have a bit of a love-hate relationship with books set during this time period. Whilst I really enjoyed this one, my feelings are a bit all over the place. I don't think that I can confidently say that I loved it, but there was definitely something there - it's an absolutely beautiful read after all, and comes with a sucker-punch of a plot twist! I feel that fans of [b:The Tattooist of Auschwitz|38359036|The Tattooist of Auschwitz|Heather Morris|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1525962117s/38359036.jpg|56940861] would really enjoy this one!

Well written and entertaining story that will break your heart for so many reasons.

The story itself develops well and sucks you in. It would be suited to young adults who are able to understand mature themes.

Absolutely amazing!!! Honestly it has been such a great and heart-felt journey as a reader to experience the love of Margot and Dieter. The 2 was such a beautiful couple and cannot be any happier for their ending. The author was able to give out heart-breaking experiences for the 2 main characters and it deeply touched my heart in many parts of the story as I felt very emotional for specific parts of this book. I cannot express how much I love this book and can only hope that the author creates even more amazing books like this or that I can find more book like this. Thank you for the great creation and that I am so glad to had chosen this book to read.
