Buddy Read with Ate Bea <3

Continuation of Drew and Fable. Tbh I liked the first book better. Too much drama here that I kind of felt that Drew was being kind of a girl. I liked how Fable handled him though. Review will be up on the blog.

I was lucky enough to be able to go from SEVEN DAY GIRLFRIEND right into this one. It definitely helped because I was still emotionally charged after finishing SDG and was able to get the emotional closure I needed after the crap these two had to deal with.

SECOND CHANCE GIRLFRIEND picks up a few months after the end of SDG. Drew and Fable are both trying to get their lives back on track. For Fable, that means getting a new job and finding a better place for her brother and herself. For Drew, it's counseling and focusing on learning how to move forward. But for both of them, finding a better place and moving forward means learning how to support each other through the good and the bad.

This was an exceptionally hard read, because the depth of what Drew went through and just how sick Step Mommy Dearest was comes out. But then there is Fable's "relationship" with her mother and just how little the woman cares for either of her children. You go from one extreme to another with both sets of parents and it makes you wonder just how Fable or Drew manage to get out of bed everyday.

But what I loved most about this story was how Drew and Fable learned how to lean on each other. They'd never had anyone they could share all the bad stuff with, so it took a bit for both of them to figure out just how to do it. But when they did, they found the two of them together were so much stronger and could deal with just about anything that came their way.

I loved, loved, loved this series, but especially this book. Monica Murphy is now on my must read list.

OK.

So, I was definitely invested in Drew and Fable but I actually think the execution of this story was a little off. I was either skimming boring parts or rolling my eyes at the additional drama that was added to the book. I three starred the first part of this duet but, after reading this second part, I probably should have given that one four stars especially considering it was a debut novel. I think there was so much potential but it fell a little flat here. I am definitely interested in reading more by this author, though…Overall, I think her writing, as well as her plot and character development is great.

To be honest, this wasn't too memorable and I probably won't read this series again, but it was cute the first time around. They both have their problems, but seeing them work through it together is sweet. Nice ending.

Honestly I feel like one book is enough. The plot are like scattered pieces a little here and there. Many people just show up once (like Ty and the other teammate Logan) and barely serve much purpose to the main plot. This second book is not the worst but also not good in my opinion.

More in vacation reads that I'm not sure why I read: this book is great for a guilty, probably not good for my brain, kind of read. Big surprise at the end that I totally did not see coming, so it's still 'okay.'
