What a wonderful cozy mystery. What a way to find out that you inherited a house and a store by being evicted, fired, and dumped all in the same day. Amelia found out that she is a witch and needs to solve a murder that happened right in her new store.
Amelia Spelled loses her boyfriend and her job on the same day. But also on the same day she gets a letter from a lawyer who says that her aunt has died and she (Amelia) has inherited the cupcake business. The problem is that Amelia cannot cook - at all. So Amelia drives to Bayberry Creek to find out about this new cake shop she has inherited. It seems she has also inherited the aunts house as well. As Amelia settles in, strange things start happening in her new house such as rooms mysteriously appearing and disappearing. Not to mention, her ongoing cooking problems at the shop. The good news is that the Aunt's single employee has stayed on to help teach Amelia how to cook - hopefully. When a customer falls down dead at the shop, everyone else in town stays away thinking that maybe Amelia will poison them too. So, Amelia, the employee and the lawyer all have to solve this mystery fast if they want to keep the cake shop running.
Set in Australia. Uses Australian words, slang and spelling - which i have no trouble with since I am a kiwi.
I am having trouble accepting that it is now quite common for cozy mysteries to have a paranormal angle. Is this really necessary to sell books? It's not that I disapprove of the paranormal, but we all know that this is NOT normal in the REAL WORLD, and I am very much a realist!!
I I did read this book in just a few hours so it did hold my interest. I gave it 3 stars.

I like this book. It is a fun, fast read. Lot's of clichés, a very unsubtle plot but it doesn't pretend to be more than it is. The characters are fun, and if you are looking for a nice cozy mystery with a little bit of witchcraft and a touch of baking, this book is for you.
How the actual efg did this book even get in my kindle library.
I'm going to assume that I was abducted by aliens and in the waiting room before I got probed they had a selection of free ebooks to download and this was the pick of the lot.
DNF @ 30%
My eyes almost walked off the job, I had to put it down, I was facing optical mutiny.
I'm not even going to go into why it was bad, it just was. There's a kitten on the cover and even that couldn't redeem it.

It was cute, short, and fun. One day I may grab the second one when I get caught up on some other series. Just to see how it plays out.
Solid 3.75!
Cute, fun, witty and very light hearted!
I never read a cozy mystery before, and honestly had no idea what one was up until recently. Miss Spelled was a very light read, and great for a filler book. I am starting a much more in depth book soon and needed something light before hand.
Amelia reminds me of a sweet, innocent twenty-something that has no idea what to do with her life. She loses just about everything in one day and is then handed a whole lot of something within that same day! If you are looking for in depth world building you will not get it. However, I LOVE when you learn and experience things right along with the MC. She is discovering a new place to call home and she describes it as she experiences it.
I enjoyed how she slowly discovered herself, she developed through love and friendship and support. Amelia had a "family" of friends, and she was finally able to be genuinely happy and confident. The characters are all a little strange, but they are witches, so I wouldn't expect much less. It reminded me of college friends, lunches, dinners, coffee and breakfast. Little get-togethers and study dates, it was, for lack of words, cozy. They all just felt very comfortable.
I'm not sure about the mystery part, I understand it, but I feel as though it wasn't placed very well, I did like how the house was incorporated in solving the mystery, and the cats, LOVED the cats! I want cats named Willow and Hawthorne! <3 (Instead I have Gemma and Finn!) I felt as though, for an outsider and her logical reasoning in solving the mystery itself, I just didn't understand the placement, it seemed off, and I am struggling to explain it otherwise without spoilers. The mystery in the story was required, but it was late, about 57% through the book before you even remembered that there was supposed to be a mystery.
Ok, ok, I'll add the spoiler!
Let's look into how her Aunt Angelica died, was it natural? Did something happen to her? Was it old age? What about the mystery/history of the house that she is now living in? Look into that, but this random McCallum guy? Eh, not so much! The mystery with these strange witch cats? What about that?
It's a story, I know, I get it. I'm looking WAY too much into this! Overall I enjoyed it! I would absolutely keep reading about Amelia, it is a light read, and fun! It isn't heavy or dark, it doesn't make your heart burn with emotion, it is simple and cute, and I liked it! I hope you will too!

Spoiler
I feel as though there was no real need to investigate why some random guy (that she didn't even like after her first impression) fell over dead in her new bakery. The police investigated it, and yes the reasoning for his death seemed odd, yes it scared away business, but sometimes things happen. Go out, meet people, advertise your bakery! The more the townspeople get to know you the more they will like and support you! But this guy? Who cares!Let's look into how her Aunt Angelica died, was it natural? Did something happen to her? Was it old age? What about the mystery/history of the house that she is now living in? Look into that, but this random McCallum guy? Eh, not so much! The mystery with these strange witch cats?
