Killian was wonderfully twisted with a protective side that made him addicting. Knowing he had no intentions of giving up after 30 days and his manipulation, that soon turned into righting as many of the wrongs done to her was a fun read. I couldn’t put this book down.

I've had this on my kindle for a couple of years and read it for a TBR challenge I'm taking part in this year. Killian/Captive Beauty is a Beauty and the Beast re-telling, a very, VERY, loose one but enough that it fits the criteria, lol. The story entertained me enough that I read it all without skimming any or considering DNF'ing it. The plot is very much of the dark mafia captive trope and whilst it is somewhat cliched on occasions this would have been one of the originals of the trope so gains points for that.

Whilst I liked both Killian and Cilla I never found myself fully convinced of their feelings for one another. In part, this was probably due to Cilla being a victim of betraying body syndrome, which sits alongside insta-love as a trope I just don't enjoy. The chemistry between the couple was fiery and intense, bordering on violent and, initially at least, very dubious in consent. When you are given the choice of giving your body or watching your brother be violently beaten or worse, then consent isn't truly given freely. A very dysfunctional relationship of sorts develops but as we get to know Cilla it becomes clear just how perfectly it fits the darkness of her soul.

We get quite a sanitised, romanticised version of organised crime with world-building that was fairly sparse. I also wasn't ever truly convinced of the feelings this pair had for one another, lots of sex scenes is not akin to showing me them falling in love. That said if you're looking for a well written and easy to read mafia captive romance this is one of the better ones.

When in the mood for dark romance, Natasha Knight is one of my go to authors, and she NEVER disappoints! This loose interpretation of Beauty and the Beast had me captivated from the first chapter and kept me there til the very end! Jones finds himself in more trouble than he can get out of, when his sister Cilla steps up. She agrees to be at the mercy of dangerous Killian Black for 30 days. But does she know what she has gotten herself into? Or better yet, does he know what he just agreed to? These two from the minute they meet have combustible chemistry, but the circumstances are not what we would normally refer to as romantic. Kill is far from the gentle lovemaker, and Cilla is finding herself unable to deny her attraction to him. Each has demons they fight with every day, and with that driving them, it fuels their passion to help find the healing they need. I love Natasha Knight's ability to shock me each time I listen to one of her books. This one has a taboo not outwardly discussed, but propels Cilla into the woman she has become. Knight also intricately weaves one of my favorite characters in, Dominic Benedetti, giving us a peek at his life and where things are heading for his organization. It is a brilliant move, and fluidly flows into Kill's story. Unlike some of Knight's other anti-heroes, I loved how Kill looked after Cilla. He took the time to find out her demons, take care of her brother and learn what she needs. While his darkness is strong, his love does show some light.

The narration choice for this book could not have been better cast. I love Christian Fox, and his ability to voice Killian is spot on. He is able to growl and punish, and be concerned and tender. As always, he can switch up the emotions where in one instance, I hate Kill, and the next minute he is passionate making me fall hard. For Cilla, a similar narration is necessary too. While broken, she held a darkness inside her that needed a voice full of hurt, yet strength to carry on. Kate Genevieve was perfect for this. She carried Cilla through every scene with an emotional undertone that made me know there is so much more to her than we know. Together these two melded with heartbreak and passion.

It's an ok read, certainly steamy, but the characters were rather flat and unlikeable, with the story just sort of limping along.

I had a hard time with my rating of this book. It had a good strong story, but I have a hard time getting past rape between the main "heroes" of the story, and that is in this pretty quickly from the start. There is an HEA and things seem to wrap up nicely. This book made me feel pretty much all the feelings on the spectrum. I don't know that I would read it again because it hurt my heart, my I know this book will be in my thoughts for some time.

The storyline between the H & h seemed rushed. The ending didn't do anything for me either.

Also - the audible was very distracting for me. Why have a guy and girl narrate if you're not going to use them to voice their parts?
