fresh setting for more adventure. leafpool finally gets her time in the sun but i rolled my eyes so hard every time brambleclaw was being angsty because he can’t communicate.
it’s a very “whatever” installment in the wc series that makes me return to the idea of an abriged series that cuts out the books that are all setup.

Story improved with the new setting.

It's trying, but this entry into the second half of New Prophecy feels like 320 pages of tedious setup with one, tiny, mildly interesting conflict squeezed in. It doesn't help that Brambleclaw starts rolling downhill likability-wise here and...well, he's never going to stop.

They're finally settled at the Lake! The descriptions of the territories around the lake and each camp were really good. If it was more about getting settled and exploring their boundaries, I would've ranked this higher.
But god all of the fucking arguments. This is yet again one where I just want to sit them down (in this book it's Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw) in a room together and have them actually talk through all their bullshit. Air out all of the bad feelings and suspicion and everything so they can stop with the drama. But I know that it'll still be a while before Hawkfrost is found out to be a cunt, so I'll still have to deal with it.
Also the Crowfeather and Leafpool thing kinda came out of nowhere. Crowfeather said that he loves her and she's been in his dreams, but wtf? We've only had one written time that they possibly had a shared dream and that was the night Leafpool found the moonpool, and then he confessed his love 2 days after. So it wasn't a constant thing or something happening over a long period of time. Also the only time they had a shared dream, they didn't talk to each other. Dream Leafpool could be nothing like Real Leafpool yet he thinks he's in love with both. He's acted like an ass whenever they've talked to each other, yet there's still special tingles and shit when they touch because the Firestar's Quest Prophecy has to come about in the next arc.
Honestly after looking up how other people thought of it, I feel even more vindicated in my above paragraph ^. Also I hadn't really thought about Mothwing and Leafpool together before now cause they're *both* medicine cats, but like fuck they work so much better together. Throughout multiple books in this arc they've been best friends, talking through deep secrets with one another, helping each other with their duties and teaching each other shit. Leafpool has mentioned multiple times how beautiful Mothwing is. It's been a while since I read Mothwing's standalone book, but Mothwing likely also talked about how much she relies on her best friend who's always been there for her.
