college romance, enemies to lovers, rich football player and hard worker girls - what else is needed?

I have some mixed opinions about this book. I absolutely adored Nix but not so much Elle. Elle had trust issues due to failed relationships and I can say that hit a little close to home so it was a struggle to get through some parts of the book. But overall Elle started to overreact more and more and it made me not really care for her. Nix deserved so much more. I am actually excited for the next book. Hopefully this next one will be a winner.

I'm going to be honest. I'm not quite sure how to start this review. With a quote, with swoon worthy praise. Who knows?

Elle definitely is not my favorite. While her slight character growth made this novel worth it, the self sabotage, living in the past, unwilling to trust life style really boiled my blood. She did have her moments where I didn't want to shake her though.

Nix... Oh Nix. The way that I love this man. He was perfect from the start. He had this huge heart, and determination. His loyalty and childlike carefreeness. I loved how he was honest, even when there were times he kept things to himself. Nix's story was definitely intriguing.

While I wasn't Elle's hugest fan, I loved her and Nix's romance. Although I could've used a bit more enemies in this enemies-to-lovers. The spice was amazing and their chemistry was so heartfelt. It almost reminded me of that warm feeling you get when you drink a hot cup of tea.

I am giving this novel 4.5 stars. Overall it was an amazing read, but because of how infuriating it had been every few chapters, I had to dock a star and half. It is still definitely a worth the read.

3.5★/5★
"She was a part of me I hadn’t even known was missing.
She was the first best decision I’d made in my life, and her love made every day worth it."

The book is so good but I think the author put too many drama time, like two problems are okay, maybe even three but four about the same thing over and over I don't think so.

In other matters I really like this book more than the first one.

I love and enemies to lovers book.

*3.5 Stars*

Let me start off this review by saying that I love Nix Russo. He is the definition of a golden retriever boy and I would like to have one. Elle on the other hand...goddamn. At first, I understood why she didn't like Nix at first due to the past. But this past was in high school and she's a junior in college. So I don't understand why she can't move on when time has essentially passed. The story itself was alright but it felt like a cycle where Elle becomes insecure/lashes out for being lied to and Nix blames himself and grovels when it wasn't even his fault in the first place. Nix has proved himself over and over again that he is a good person and not what Elle thinks of him but it took her until like the last 100 pages to be like oh maybe I do deserve love from him. I wanted to like Elle but her antics just made me dislike her even more. The only reason this is three stars is because of Nix honestly.

My favourite romance trope is enemies to lovers so I was very excited to read this book. Even though it more like enemies to friends to lovers I still really enjoyed it.

Elle was a great main character. She knew what she wanted, was loyal to her friends and had flaws (that at times were a bit annoying but understandable). One thing I appreciated is that, even though it didn't always work out, Elle and Nix did their best to communicate. I feel like a lot of time in romance novels so many conflicts could be avoided if the characters just talked and thankfully Maya Hughes didn't make me suffer through this.

Nix was such a great character as well. He was such an awesome boyfriend and so understanding towards Elle. His relationship with his dad definitely hurt my heart but I'm glad that worked out in the end.

I'm really excited to read the next book in the series! This may sound silly but I'm excited to read a book with a protagonist with my name hahaha

DNF at 60%. I don’t know why I couldn’t get through this, but I just couldn’t. I’ve been trying to read it for months and after taking a month long break I got back into it and read like 20% more but then I just got stuck again. I think it has to do with the fact that I don’t really like Elle that much. Nix is a pretty good main character and I like the friend group aspect but even after reading the first book and more than half of this one I just can’t seem to care enough about Elle and Nix together so I’m giving up for now.

3.5
I loved Nix so much. SO much. But I really disliked Elle. Her character makes rating this so hard for me. If she were a bit more likable this would have easily been a 4.5 read for me. But I never warmed up to her. Not even by the end. I felt like Phoenix deserved so much better than her. She might be one of the most selfish and fake people I’ve ever read about. I’ve been cheated on and have trust issues but she was just flat out mean and her “do-good” personality never felt real…it felt selfish and fake from start to finish.
But Phoenix is easily a favorite book boyfriend.
