A lifetime if struggles and decisions culminate over a few days in a downtown church.  This early work of James Baldwin doesn’t have the depth of later novels, but is certainly worth reading.

Amen,
Thy will be done.
Amen,
So be it.

By and large, I loved The Amen Corner for the glimpse I caught in the essence of Black church -- the preaching and the praying, the singing and the shouting. It came out vividly, and powerfully, in the form of a play, perhaps more so than a novel.

Religion be like “our faith enables us to have solidarity for all hurting people lmaojk now that we know your hurt we will use it against you”
