Peter is back. However, the reader is thrown into new adventures with Spider-man as the prep for Spider-Verse crossover begins.

Dan Slott is a fun author who had a amazing Superior Spider-man run. However, with Peter back I wish the heroics side was slowed down so we the readers could see him truly deal with the repercussions of Doc Ock's meddling.

Silk moves out and gets a new outfit. Spidey (Peter) teams up with Ms Marvel. And there's some background to Spiderverse.
Great art - there are so many Spiders to keep track of, but it’s doable with this line/colour combo.

I always like the part of the story arc where there is build-up, where the coming threat is shown to be awful and insurmountable. That's what this is. Of course, the sad part is eventually there will be the letdown of the resolution. But I'll worry about that later.

This is the second book in my read-through of the Silk and Spider-Gwen portions of the Spider-Man universe.

There's no Gwen yet, and very little Silk, but this is a fun examination of the upcoming Spider-Verse story that brings them to the forefront of the Spidder-mythos. And, again, it's fun. It's silly and it's over-the-top, but because it focuses less on the conventional Spider-Man, and more on the many Spider-Men of many different universes, it worked for me.

I think it's biggest plus is that it doesn't spend too long on an idea. Slott is clearly full of ideas, but sometimes turns what would be a fun five page story into a dreary and exhausting year long storyline. But, in this volume, we get five pages of Shakespider-man, ten pages of Captain Spider-Brit, some Christos Gage written bits about Superior Spider-Man's time in the Spider-Man 2099 universe. It's constantly moving and evolving the story. And it makes me hopeful for the actual Spider-Verse story.

I recommend this for people who enjoy different iterations of Spider-Man, fans of Spider-Man Noir, people with short attention spans, Spider-freaks, Dan Slottophiles, and anyone looking for the goofy fun that I derided in the review I wrote for [b:Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1: The Parker Luck|20898012|Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. 1 The Parker Luck|Dan Slott|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1505597985s/20898012.jpg|40257734].

A mixed bag. The Ms. Marvel Spider-man teamup with a bit too cute but well done. But the Spider totems through time quickly got tedious. The individual characters are somewhat interesting. And the Superior Spider-man was almost as good as in the regular books. But in general the multiple worlds is irritating as almost always. 3.5 of 5.

okay is there scholarly literature out there about superhero comics and fandom and how they draw on the same literary tropes? because this volume was pure fanfic, there were crossovers, au, freakin pheromones, like the more i read the more i was like '...so christos gage, just out of curiousity, what's your archiveofourown account?'

so that was sort of fun to note. other fun things: my girl kamala khan. i'm really liking how much marvel's committing to her as a character, she's chilling with every other superhero i end up reading. if you're gonna have a flagship character i think teenage ball of sunshine is a pretty good choice, you know?

anyways i'm ngl i basically picked this up bc spider gwen exists and i thought i might as well get the backstory before diving into her volume. 3 stars
