There's something about her non-law books that just rub me the wrong way. Most of the reviews gripe about Mike being a wimp and he mostly was, but man Bob was an asshole! Mike might have had issues being a dad, but what man wants an asshole to raise his child? Not too painful a read though after you get through the first few chapters.

Lisa Scottoline is one of my favorite authors, but this just had too much going on. The story of Mike Scanlon returning from Afghanistan after his wife dies and reconnecting with his daughter would have been a wonderful and heartwarming story. Including his efforts to readjust would have also fit in nicely, but the added murder of his wife's best friend and his obsession with it were a bit much. I also found his wife's sister and brother-in-law hard to take. Hope the next one if better.

Lisa is a great writer but this wasn’t my favorite of her books. It just had too much going on.
It ended well, almost too well considering.
Biggest cameo upside: Stephanie.
Also glad they delve into soldiers, their  trials upon return and PTSD.

Not one of Ms Scottoline's best. I was disappointed.

Pretty good thriller - it felt a little predictable, but I was surprised by the ending, so maybe it WASN'T predictable! Dr Mike Scanlon is consumed by his wife's death while he is serving in Afghanistan. Her autopsy report shows that she was pregnant (not by him) and under the influence (he didn't know she drank) at the time of her death of an accidental stab wound. Upon returning home, he becomes consumed with her death and the subsequent murder of her best friend whom he believes was killed in order to ensure that no one finds out that his wife had an affair. In the meantime, Mike is also fighting his wife's sister & lawyer husband for the custody of his young daughter who have they been caring for while he was in Afghanistan.

Having read many other Lisa Scottoline books, I knew Don’t Go was going to be good and I wasn’t disappointed. I really enjoyed this book because it explored so many topics with just the right amount of depth. Mike is a podiatrist, Army doctor, father, husband-turned-widower, suffering from PTSD, injured, and becomes addicted to Oxycodone. That may sound like a lot to happen to one person in a book, but the author gently weaves these events together as one thing leads to another. While reading this book, I learned more about the bond between soldiers and their unit, how easily one decision can make a ripple effect on many others, and that the human body and soul can recover from many tragedies and be okay. -Dana S

This is an absorbing read that brings the difficulties veterans returning home face to the forefront of the reader's thoughts. While the close comradery of those who serve together is illustrated, the army as a whole is not portrayed favorably in any of the scenes taking place in Afghanistan. The losses Mike faces resulting from his sacrifice to his country are staggering: his wife, watching his baby daughter grow during her early years, and his arm, not to mention the impact the experience has on his mental health.

Dr. Mike Scanlon, a podiatrist, is serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan. His wife, Chloe, and seven-month-old daughter, Emily, wait stateside for his return. Unexpectedly, Chloe falls, hits her head and dies in their home. Mike returns home briefly to bury his wife and leave Emily in the care of Chloe's sister, Danielle, and her husband. As time passes, he learns more about Chloe and her life in his absence. His life seems to spiral out of control as a result of what he discovers and its impact on his actions.

Like some of this author's recent books, the subject matter can be emotionally challenging to read. However, like other similar books of hers, I couldn't stop reading. This particular book reveals numerous emotional life issues facing soldiers who are deployed to fight as well as their families. This book is a well written a compelling story that teaches much. Thanks Lisa!

This is one of the best of her standalone thrillers! Great characters and setting!!

I was slightly disappointed in this book which is surprising because I really enjoy Lisa Scottoline. I'm glad everything got wrapped up in a bow at the end but overall the first half of the book was just a drag. I felt like there was almost too much thrown into this one and it got chaotic. There were several things I caught right off the bat, like the agreement, without it having to be explained. I don't know. The whole thing felt a bit unrealistic. The most realistic aspect was probably Mike's experience with, and after, the military which I did find enjoyable. Not my fav.
