It's been quite a while since I read the earlier books in this series (pre-GR), but many of the characters came back to me pretty quickly. Generally I'm not a big fan of the 2nd chances trope but enjoyed the story of Autumn and Sam and Connor.

I haven't read any books by author Rachel Gibson even though I do own many of her books. So when the publisher sent me Any Man of Mine, I really didn't know what to expect with the writing by this author. I was also worried since it is book six in a series, but I dove into the story anyway in hopes of not needing to read the previous books.

While it wasn't the best romance I have read, it certainly wasn't a disappoint me either. I liked the writing style and the fun characters that the author created. Even though Sam was a little full of himself at times and could be well deserving of a smack upside his head, I thought that Autumn handled him well enough and could feel a spark between the two. I like how Sam slowly warmed up to the idea of taking over his role of Father to their child even if he was a little late in getting there. Then after reading a few chapters, I noticed that the little opening at each chapter was a glimpse into what the character was suppose to learn in each of those chapters.

Even though this is book six in the Chinooks Hockey Team Series, I didn't feel lost or confused like you would normally feel when coming into a series late. I felt it held its own as a stand alone and it captured my interest in reading more of this authors work. Why did it take me so long to realize that I need to read more of this author? Thank goodness I already own more of her work because now I am hooked on her writing. Since I don't have prior reading experience of her other works, I can't say if this is better or worse than previous novels. All I can say is that I am desperately wanting to find the time to read more of her work!

Any Man of Mine by Rachel Gibson
Autumn Haven marries Sam LaClair hockey player, who is raising their son and asks for another chance.
What happens in Vegas, she just wanted to take in a show and gamble a bit. That's not quite what happened. She's a wedding planner and one of her jobs is Sam's friend.
Veronica who chases him from town to town as the hockey team plays and travels, she is wanting more from him...
Book travels back to when they met, love Las Vegas strip and the different places there that I also have fond memories of.
Back to the present day he also gets their son some nights when he's in town from the hockey season. She remembers what she loved about Sam even now.
Love the 'any man of mine isms' at the beginning of every chapter, sets the mood.
With his injury they get to spend a lot more time together and Autumn and Sam have much unfinished business to finish...
Love the hot steamy sex, it's just the right touch...

it's too fast, rushed.
Suddenly he wakes up and all he wants is his discarded family?well i guess it is a good thing that he eventually man up. but I don't see it working in the long run.
And she fell in LOVE with over a booze induced/no string attached free sex? are there still woman that naïve? really? i pity them then!

My thoughts:
Yes this is book but with some books you can read out of order. I jumped in head first and I had no trouble at all. Since this is about hockey players finding love and they all got a book of their own. Even if other players were mentioned here I never felt lost. So you can read this one without having read the other books.

Many have said it and yes I agree, Sam is pretty much as an ass for much of this book. He is a hockey player who likes his women tall, with big boobs and not much between the ears. Once he tried something else and that was Autumn. Married her and left her pregnant. No wonder she does not like him. He says she blows hot and cold, well that is because you are an ass mister. She is a struggling mom with a job that takes a lot of time. I liked her at once. Sam, well Sam took some time to get used to. He stood his son up a lot too, and the things he said sometimes. You do not say to your son that some things he does are something a sissy would do. Now it sounds like I hated Sam, but I didn’t. He was just a jerk that did not think about other people any more.

That sounds hopeless doesn’t it? It was, but Sam started to change a little at a time. He understood that he should be there for his son, and that it was a woman like Autumn he should have in his life. Not a silly braindead model. He is a man who changes, and it’s not like he is fully changed at the end. Things like that take time, but he is almost there. And I liked that because change takes time, and here it certainly did. He did really want Autumn, and I forgave him.

Conclusion:
A different sort of contemporary romance. I did not fall for the hero at once, he had to work to prove he was a good man.

Decent chemistry between the two main characters but definitely felt somewhat dated. I liked the unconventional setup of them already having a kid together too.
