Cute and funny as always. Elements of repetition, emphasis on friendship, and Princess Magnolia (thankfully) has a diverse set of friends.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Overall it was a pretty good story but “I really wanted Princess Sneezewort to win one of the games”. -5 year old review

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️”It was the best book in the whole world. I really liked when the monster said Happy Birthday!” -3 year old review

3 stars - “it was an ok book.”
2 stars - “it wasn’t a very good book”
1 star - “I didn’t like this book at all”

It is Mags bday party and the monsters will not leave her alone. She keeps getting ringed when trying to open presents and must trick her friends into doing something else so she can save the day.

Presents make a perfect party!

I loved the story and the illustrations in this book. I recommend this to 5-8 year olds and I even recommend this whole series to adults who may actually enjoy this. I thought it was worth the read.

The Princess in Black and the Perfect Princess Party is an early reader book about a superhero princess who's trying to have the best birthday ever AND fight monster eating goats.

Things You'll Find:
*More Pink, More Poof, More Princesses*
*Tons of costume changes*

Love this series, it's so adorable I could cry :)

The Princess in Black and the Perfect Princess Party marks the return of Princess Magnolia! It's her birthday and all she wants to do is celebrate with her princess friends and open presents. But monsters never seem to sleep, and Magnolia is called away many times during the day to double at the Princess in Black and keep innocent goats from being eaten.

I'll reiterate what I said previously, this series is full of simple, easy sentences and mild repetition to help aid young readers in their transition from early readers and picture books into traditional chapter books. The illustrations are beautiful, full of color, and I appreciated the diversity of all the additional princesses in this particular edition.

I need more Blacky, it's too funny watching this pony transform into a trusty steed. Overall absolutely adorable, I can't wait to read the next one

I love this series. What I love the most: a prim and perfect and pink princess becomes... the Princess in Black! She fights a ton of monsters in this new installment, with the monster alarms continuously interrupting her birthday party. In the end, the idea that a "normal" "girly" girl, one who likes friends and presents and pink and glitter rings, can also be a kick-butt action hero is perfect. And as a recent article pointed out while talking about the newest Star Wars, this is the PERFECT book for boys. Because while girls need role models like this, boys need them, perhaps even more.

What I dislike: Princess Magnolia's unicorn is named Frimplepants. Frimplepants turns into... Blacky. BLACKY!?! Not "Midnight" or "The Dark Horse of Doom" or "Pony Avenger," but .... "Blacky." So disappointing. (I just looked back at my thoughts on PIB1 and found that this frustration is merely a continuation of that which I felt after reading the first in the series. I guess it's too late to change his name now.)

I also wish the Goat Boy had a little more oomph. He lost a little personality in this second book. And while I loved seeing the party guests show up as different cultures, it was distracting to look at them all and wonder whether they were overstereotyped. Clearly, more diverse books means that we (hopefully) won't need every book that pokes a toe in that direction to be everything and do everything, but in the meantime, it would be nice to have a Monster-fighting Princess surrounded by culturally diverse characters who also defy their stereotypes.

Bonus: I found this gem on Shannon Hale's Goodreads page: http://oinks.squeetus.com/2015/10/bonus-secret-epilogue-to-the-princess-in-black-2.html

the darn monsters always get in the way.
