Reacher finds himself posted back to the US from an important operation in South America and in charge of the MPs on base. He gets dragged out, early on New Year's morning, to a natural death of a two star general. The officer has apparently died while in bed with a prostitute. All would be well but something important goes missing... At the same time, he realises there are a whole group of his colleagues who have mysteriously been reposted over the world. What is going on and is everything connected? Plus his mother becomes seriously unwell and he has to juggle all the balls.
This is my second Reacher book. I wasn't that impressed with the first one I read but, to my surprise, I loved this one. I could hardly put it down. This book has one of the best discussions of death I have ever seen in a murder mystery. It also has an excellent explication of who is Reacher and how did he develop into the character he is? The characterisations are very well done.
I also enjoyed the time setting which was at the fall of the Berlin wall. There appeared to be no anachronisms and Child captured the times well as far as I remember them.
A good mystery, well written with good timing and suspense. Enjoy.

Ależ to jest filmowa książka! Jakie miejsca!

entertaining. the wrap-up at the end bugged--too much to suddenly put together and reveal in an annoying way.
Reacher and a slow burning reveal of a complex backstory - top stuff!

This is a fast paced, action packed page turner. I chose to start with this prequel and I am glad I did. It is well written and an easy read for its length. As someone with little military knowledge I found the story very interesting. It kept me engaged from page one and I read it in one sitting.

Listened via Audible. This was "just another" cop drama. Decent story, nothing special. I enjoyed the story, but the ending was pretty cut and dry. There were some plot holes. I'd recommend, but don't expect anything special. Also, the audio sucked. The narrator had the same voice for every single character - everyone sounded like a pre-pubescent boy (males and females alike). If you're interested, I suggest actually reading it.
