If I wasn't reading this for a purpose I probably wouldn't have finished it but it was fine. It had the usual hold-ups for me in an old school romance with questionable consent more than once. But of other OSR I have read - this wasn't that bad.

The hero is in disguise and may or may not be a highwayman? The heroine is going to marry the Duke that... she doesn't know is hiding in her barn? It was some serious enemies to lovers energy with some mistaken identity just for giggles. I did like the Grandmother. I want that grandma? Her chaotic energy gave me life.

This was a fun read, but the constant misunderstandings made it a 3 star because that just gets annoying.

I really enjoyed this story. I read it years ago and decided to come back to it and see if I would like it as much. It really held up for me. Megan is an adorable heroine. Beautiful and sweet, very likeable. Devlin is a little jerky, but not too much to be off-putting. Just the right amount of jerkiness to make him interesting.

Devlin is a duke who recently called off his engagement when he caught his fiancee cheating. Then his best friend's sister claims he got her pregnant in order to push him to marry her. He refuses, and he goes off to the middle of nowhere to hide from his friend. He plays the part of a horse breeder and is "employed" by Megan's father. Of course, the two are attracted to each other, and the book revolves around how they get together.

The story is sweet. The drama level is small, but all the arguments feel believable and understandable (I hate when authors make their heroines freak out over insignificant things just to get some drama going). The book is less steamy than Lindsay's other romances - the sex scenes are only like page each. But I think the relationship building is done well enough that even if you prefer a sexier regency-romance book, you'll still enjoy this one.

I borrowed this from a friend of mine just because she said it would be an entertaining read and don’t get me wrong it was. I laughed so much with this book, especially since it was the Greek translation and some paragraphs were written so badly, you couldn’t not laugh. But I can’t say it was the best book I’ve read. I did not care for the main characters, I found them irritating and childish. And I get that it was written in 1992 and was about the Victorian ages but some of the stuff the male main character would say was not it. Also, the chapters were from both of the characters' POVs (sometimes even a third person's POV), which made reading it very confusing. Overall, it wasn’t the best book out there but it read like a Hallmark movie.

In NYE tradition I had to pick up a Johanna Lindsey and this happened to be the first on the closest pile to the edge of my shelf. I enjoyed the story of Megan and Devlin, they were perfectly matched and though there wasn't much story, it was a classic enemies to lovers old school style.
