Initially, I only read this because I was planning on watching one of the various film adaptations and I saw it for $2 in an antique store. I am SO glad I picked it up and actually read it! I'm really looking forward to watching some of the movies, although I hear they are significantly worse than the book (especially the Marlon Brando with a bucket on his head one).

The Island of Dr. Moreau is deserving of a really good screen adaptation. As I was reading the last third of the book, I could see a vision of the perfect movie in my head. It's an excellent premise for a good body horror movie, especially considering Moreau's surgical profession. I find it odd that so many similar stories that have since been told always seem to use either some kind of gene editing thing or radiation when dissection is so much more visceral and horrifying. Why are people watering down my new favourite mad scientist, man?

An interesting thought provoking story. I like how it challenges ethics and morality when it comes to science.

Had to update my review to 5 stars because I haven't been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it. One of the best adventure/horror/classics I've ever read.

I’m not really sure what else to say expect that I loved it. Early science fiction was always so concerned/focused on man’s desire to play god and try to create

A decent book if this is your thing. The Time Machine is still my favorite HG Wells but I did like this more than The War of the Workds.

It starts off in a similar vein as Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (MC lost at sea is rescued by someone who does “interesting” science and then held captive for a year.) It gave me vibes of Frankenstein when Dr Moreau did his experiments and set them free when he was done.

Just because you can do something does not mean you should.

P.S. The dog
is killed by the hyena-swine.
