Finale: Late Conversations with Stephen Sondheim by D.T. Max

Not the most insightful or intimate interviews of Sondheim I’ve ever seen, but Max’s writing is strong, and his book provides the fantasy of what it would be like to sit around with Sondheim and ask him questions, even if he bristled at a few of them.

Max commits the sin of many interviewers and thinks that I care about him in any way that does not pertain to his subject.

Came for the Sondheim interviews, struggled through the weird internal monologues of the interviewer. The interviews were fantastic, I just didn’t care much for the large segments of the journalists rambling

Really just beautiful- I feel so fortunate any time I get the pleasure of reading Sondheim’s words. I cannot help wishing there was more but i guess that’s the point of it

A wonderful, short, and intimate look at Sondheim, one of the most influential composers in theater history, who was always very private. There were many points when I was reading and was like "I wish I knew this guy personally, he seems like he'd be a sweet grandpa!"

Quick and overall delightful read. Recommended if you’re a die hard Sondheim fan.
