#1 Rival

T. Gephart

4.01 AVERAGE

This is my first T. Gephart read, and I read it out of order in the series. #1 Rival is a standalone in a series in that the characters within start their relationship within it's pages, and get their HEA by the end. Some of the supporting (but not mentioned very much at all) cast are featured in books one and two, but this wasn't a problem for me knowing - this is romance, of course there are HEAs!

So - I loved this book. It's not the first enemies-to-lovers book I've read, it's not even the first enemies-to-lovers who are also co-workers in a law firm book. But it was so good. I loved how strong-willed and smart and generally kick-ass Lauren is. I loved the banter between Lauren and Roman. And of course the sex scenes were smoking hot.

I highly recommend this book if you love the enemies-to-lovers trope, and if you love hot lawyers. I've since picked up #1 in the series (and finished it in a day), and am on to #2. Well written/edited rom-coms with career-oriented big-city characters.
funny lighthearted fast-paced

Well this is refreshing. Office romance is not something new. What I like about this book is that the good balance of comedy and power play. I like how Lauren and Roman keep pushing each other buttons and build the sexual tension.

The character have a little development. However it still suffice to bring out the push and pull banter. I love how Roman dates Luaren in an low profile way. I also enjoy how they stand on their own two feet.

Overall this is a entertaining book to read on a lazy weekend.

I love a good strong heroine. One that is smart, sassy, and can hold her own against her biggest rival. Roman is sexy, smart, and a thorn in Lauren’s side. Their mutual attraction finally surfaces, and things heat up outside of work, but the sparring continues on the job.

I enjoyed the wittiness of the dialogue and the chemistry between the two. There is a LOT of angst. Their sparring causes Lauren to question his motives, misunderstandings cause defenses to flair and accusations to fly. But who knew Roman was so romantic?!

wow what an amazing read!
I loved Roman and Lauren so much, I don't think I have laughed so much in a book.
"you think I'm in some sort of gang, Harper?"
the back and forth banter between Roman and Lauren in this Hate to Lovers Romance is off the charts funny.
Ms Gephart has once again rocked another book in the #1 series.
I'm jonsing for the next installment in this series.
I volunteered to read a copy of this book

My fave of the series so far, though in the beginning I want to bitch slap Lauren. Then halfway through, I want to kick Roman’s balls.

5 "Laugh Out Loud" Stars!!!

T. Gephart definitely knows how to bring the funny. The #1 Series is one of my favorites! Honestly, with every book it's hard to choose a favorite because they're ALL good. So let's just leave it at that they're all my favorite. And knowing that there's more books to look forward to in this series makes super freaking happy!!!

#1 Rival is a enemies to lovers romance. Gahhh, I live for these romances! Roman and Lauren, oh my gosh these two characters were AH-MAZING! Both lawyers working at the same firm. Constantly in competition with the other. Their back and forth banter was fun to read. And their chemistry was off the charts! Oh boy, and their sexual tension was tantalizingly good. As much as they hated each other they were so perfectly perfect for one another. And the way that they challenged the other to bring out their best was exactly on point. I couldn't get enough of these two. I was turning the pages at record speed anticipating what was going to happen next. But, at the same time I didn't want the book to end. Oh, the dilemma. But what a dilemma to have.

#1 Rival will have you laughing nonstop. Filled with unnecessary drama. With a h that was sassy, smart, challenging and sweet. And a H that will make you weak in the knees, who's intelligent, to-the-point, and witty. T. Gephart once again hit it out of the park. And I can't wait for the next book in this series!

This is basically the perfect book for me. It has everything that I love in it.
We have Lauren who is a kickass and doesn't take any shit in a man dominated work field. And even when she starts dating Roman, she still stays herself and her backbone doesn't magically disappear like in so many other books. She isn't whiney or indecisive when it comes to her feelings and actually calls Roman out when he messes up.
Roman may be a total douche but he grows a lot on me during the book while we get to see his sweet side. Plus when he realises that he completely messed up he owns it all and doesn't search for weak excuses.
The bickering and challenging between those two is my favorite thing of the whole book. It's so funny and you just feel the tension between them.
Plotwise I love how even though they compete against eachother there is no stupid challenge so that one has to give up something so they can be together. And also no non needed drama where you can see that it was just created for the sake of it and some drama was needed.
The pacing was just right and the story never dragged or was rushed at any time. Plus the writing was so addicting that I was shocked when I reached the last chapter without even realising how long I've already read. I was so sad when it was all over.
I laughed out loud, got all the fluffy feels, felt with the characters and was so happy that it had this fun bickering and a kickass female lead. Oh and that we got to see Tia and Eric again was a nice touch that made me miss them again.
So all in all go read this amazing book and you won't be disappointed.

No time to chit chat! I now need to back track to the beginning of this series and read book 1 and 2. I think I just found a new author to love but need to read more books to make sure it's not a fluke.

Some parts were really good, other parts were terrible. Unfortunately the bad parts outnumbered the good ones. I couldn’t stand Roman for 70% of the book and when he started behaving, it was definitely too late. Plus the sex scenes were superficial and awful.
