This book was written oddly. Like the main character was somehow a very old person and was telling us a story, but the way the story was being told didn't make a whole lot of sense.

He would say stuff about how he would come to recognize a look, in a strange whimsical way but I didn't feel any connection to also feel the same. The story was ok, about a boy who is sent off to boarding school and he starts seeing ghosts who want him dead. He makes friends with a girl who knows about ghosts.

Again this wasn't a strong story, and the writing style just wasn't for me. For kids 4th grade on up, if they are looking for a slow, not very scary ghost story.

Many years ago this book got me out of a reading slump that lasted for over a year. No idea how it did that because its completely unremarjable in basically every way. Im thankfull for it anyway.

Trotzdem etwas spooky.

A young boy, Jon, is sent to boarding school after his mother starts a new relationship. However, this school would bring more than boring classes and homesickness into Jon's world-- a family curse centuries old shakes up his time in Salisbury. With help from Ella, her grandmother Zelda, and the ghost know Longspee, Jon fights to break not only his curse, but the curse over Longspee and his wife.

I am a big fan of Cornelia Funke, so I was very excited to get another one of her books in my hands. While I don't think this book is nearly as interesting or intricate as The Thief Lord or Inkspell, this one still had the same charm as all her books.

While it did feel like the plot was rather rushed and the problems were easily solved, I really enjoyed the idea behind this book and the characters she has created.

Overall, it's not her best, but it's certainly worth the read, especially if you are a fan of Funke.

Enjoyable story of knights, ghosts and the middle ages. I would have liked to have understood a bit more why Stourton was so intent on killing on the Hartgills earlier in the story. But loved the history of the book. Would absolutely LOVE to visit Salisbury and see the places in the book! A bit violent at times, will have to chose who I recommend this to at the Elementary level a bit more carefully, but great story!
