Infuriated by his mother’s new boyfriend eleven-year-old Jon Whitcroft is packed off to a boarding school attached to Salisbury Cathedral. But he soon forgets his troubles back home when he’s chased by a gang of murderous spectral knights. With his friend Ella they summon the aid of the ghost of the long dead Sir William Longspee to protect him from these ghostly hunters, and in return Jon performs a service to Longspee.
Hill’s excellent delivery combined with Funke’s ability to create distinctive and engaging characters make this a superb recording.

it was a fun read; ghosts that threatened to kill you, boarding school, a best friend that understood what you'd been through (and she was through with you too).
but the first few chapters were boring and the narrator was annoying for me. (well, what can i expect from an eleven years old narrator?)
so, 3.5 stars.

I enjoyed this book very much. It's an adventure story for older children/ younger teens, though I think that there is much to love across the age range. A great choice for October, with a bit of tension and possibility to bad things happening but the forewarned knowledge that everything comes out okay in the end. The reader of the audiobook does a wonderful job of adding life and attitude to the characters. Funke is definitely one of my favorites.

This book has restored my faith in Cornelia Funke as a writer of future classics! Ghost Knight is a delicious ghost mystery that is set in and around Salisbury Cathedral using a lot of local history and with two appealing protagonists who work brilliantly together.
I have to admit to a bias for books set in real places that use real historical characters and events. I put it down to a childhood spent reading Rosemary Manning, Alan Garner and L.M. Boston. There is nothing more exciting than reading a story set in a place and then getting to visit it. I'm definitely going to Salisbury next time I'm in the UK!!
The plotting and pacing of this story deserves a special mention. It has not one, but three climaxes! Not a lot of authors can pull that off, especially in a Middle Grade book. My only complaint is that I would have liked to learn a bit more about Jon & Ella's school and get a 'boarding school story' feel from the book, but that is just personal taste.
This has made me determined to read Funke's other MG books!

Listened to this on our vacation driving with the kids - super fun, a little scary, well written and narrated and it kept the kids thoroughly engrossed. Would recommend.
