What an incredible concept! I love a thriller or sci-fi that makes me question my own morals and what I'd do in this situation! John Marrs presents so many different paths and consequences for Match Your DNA subscribers and all of them are so inherently different. Everybody is flawed and there's never a clear moral highground.

I really love how John Marrs blends sci-fi and thriller to create high-octane adventures set in the near future. Both [b:The Passengers|40718386|The Passengers|John Marrs|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1545308633l/40718386._SY75_.jpg|63334671] and The One feel like Black Mirror episodes. The tech is believable and taps into that uneasiness you feel about how Facebook, Google, and Amazon have become so deeply and darkly entwined with our lives.

This had the makings of a 5 star read but I think the multitude of perspectives let me down in the end. Eeeeeevery POV has a major conflict associated with their match, and the third quarter of this book was honestly exhausting as it jumped from mess to mess to mess. Each time a new chapter began I begrudgingly thought "okay, time to see how Match Your DNA ruined *this* person's life". 1-2 less POVs would have tightened this up considerably.

What a truly strange book. It kept me hooked, pulling me in and keeping me reading with twist after twist. Definitely not the most likable cast of characters and I will say I enjoyed this book more than liked it but it was very intriguing and definitely lived up to that.

Just loved this book. Quick, easy read. Thank you to the author for not using filler words. A page-turner.

Not my type of storyline. It was different and interesting. But I wouldn’t recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought it had a really interesting premise that made you think. Even though it was hard to like some of the characters, you still want to know how their story plays out.
It was medium to fast paced, but I thought it ended a bit abruptly, leaving one plot point open-ended. This did not detract from the overall story for me though. I also liked that the chapters were so short moving between POVs which I thought propelled the story along quickly.
Each POV switch keeps building and building and the twists for each of them kept me engaged and turning the pages for more. I did pick up on some of the twists, but thought they were done really well and I was totally surprised by others. I’d definitely recommend The One for the unique storyline, quick read, and character dynamics.

A very interesting concept but I think it’s done a disservice by the writing style. Each chapter is only three pages so you don’t get to sit with the characters long enough to actually like them before getting thrown into another perspective. Also the author seems to have worked very hard to throw as many twists in as possible some of which seem contrived.
