So sad, these books destroy me as a social worker lol

It was good but I was annoyed by the “dcfs” system they have throughout the book (UK). Probably because it seemed 100x better than ours here. Also the ending was left with tons of questions and I dont like that

Cathy’s memoirs are always enlightening and A Terrible Secret was no different. How traumatic it must have been for a 14 year old to put herself into care and for her mother who had been subject to coercive abuse. I’m looking forward to the next book to find out how Tilly’s story concludes and learn about Jackson’s story.
emotional inspiring sad fast-paced

This book was so hard hitting to read as it centred around Tilly and her family. Cathy glass really knows how to tell each individual story and what the child goes through. I felt so sorri for Tilly as her step daddy was a predator and did things without Tilly and her mum knowing like videoing Tilly as he put camera in the poor girls bedroom and bathroom. Her mother managed to finally get out of the bad situation and went to move back home with her mum and for some time Tilly had her family back together till her mum explained some things to her and it crumbled down but Cathy really helped Tilly and looked after her so well and comforted her. Cathy’s daughter also had a baby girl in this book which made the book have a happy ending. Cathy writing is so well done and she explains things to the reader which I really appreciate of her. Xxx
