At first I wasn't sure if I liked this book. It started slow and meandered through the story, switching from first person to third and back again. Yet, as I read, it won me over. It enchanted me. It wormed it's way into my soul and won me over, and I must confess, when the last page turned, I was in love.

This book was almost *too* cozy. Despite a literal murder mystery, the stakes never felt high and the plot floated along on fuzzy vibes, which isn't bad, but I think I just wanted a little more from it. I never really felt invested. Also, the third act breakup felt a little forced. That said, this book was sweet and comfy and overall enjoyable. It made for a quick read with the perfect fall vibes.

I was bored through most of this book. Not much really happened and when things did happen it felt repeated and overused. As much as I loved Arsen and Ever, I didn't really feel super invested in their romantic/sexual relationship. Despite the insistance that Ever was old enough to make his own decisions regarding sex, he was constantly and consistently infantilized. He was constantly called "the baby," "little one," and other terms that made him seem young and innocent. He also acted childish, constantly pouting and acting with a general obliviousness. The way he acted made sense given his trauma and history, which is why it felt off that the only truly adult thing about him was when it came to sex.

There was a lot of lead up to this book and it was a bit disappointing when it all finally played out. However, it did the up the series nicely on a satisfying way.

This book wasn't quite as good as the others in the series. It took me a little more to really get into it. I really hated the Katniss endearment and cringed every time it came up.
