academic so less accessible to me (and was not helped by the audiobook being kinda shit) but very interesting to learn about the link between art history, religion, immigration, race and beauty standards + fatphobia. v valuable read!

SLAYED. surprisingly good character work, my only gripe is its unimaginative cultural worldbuilding (we get it there's sex work), other than that amazing story construction, great science,  well-written, riveting twists. love

obsessed w the k-ming chang multiverse. bloated collection bc her writing is v dense, so not to be read all at once. moved me deeply. shes insane but shes free. consistently sexy and demented, LOVE the way she writes family, bodies, desire n youth

very absurd and very funny. not as clever as it wants to be, but surprisingly less dumb than one might expect! had a great time, an easy read with a bonkers ending. just the right kind of trashy

spent 6 hours with the audiobook today as a reread before book 2 and it's still excellent. riveting worldbuilding and great characters, would be 5 stars if it weren't for the stupid romance that makes 0 sense to me and my loved ones. but it's fine
