The White Hare by Jane Johnson
medium-paced
4.0
Sometimes a slower, atmospheric read is what's needed. Nothing chaotic or bloody...just a good story with full characters and a burst of momentum.
The White Hare is a tragic, yet beautiful story. Family can be complex and secretive and this journey pulls you into the realm of mother-daughter relationships. The author does a great job with this and I was engaged from the beginning.
I love the ending and the closure it gave me too. The characters are wonderful, even when difficult (you have to read this to understand) and I fell in love with them all.
Highly recommend this one when you need a book to get lost in, that is for savoring and fully enjoying.
I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Fury by Alex Michaelides
medium-paced
4.0
The Fury has had a lot of mixed reviews and I am happily on the positive side.
I actually really enjoyed the way this played out, as this gave me some major Agatha Christie vibes. I also really love locked-room type mysteries and isolated settings, so for me, this was a fun read.
I would say that this is not much of a thriller though as it is a tad slow, but that did not take away from my enjoyment of the story as a whole. I read this one as more of a mystery/drama and that seemed to work for me.
Definitely grab this one if you like Agatha Christie, and slower build mysteries. This one releases on January 16, 2024. I sincerely appreciate Celadon Books for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Crown of Bones by A.K. Wilder
fast-paced
4.0
I can't believe I waited so long to get into this one. Really love the story, characters, and flow. I want a phantom now LOL
The author's writing captured the angst and turmoil with Ash & Marcus really well. I was rooting for the both of them. I also enjoyed a certain sailor, who wasn't what he said he was. He added depth and some fun to the story for me.
Definitely recommend this one for fans of YA Fantasy. I can't wait to dive into the next book. I sincerely appreciate Entangled Teen and NetGalley for the review copy. While a review wasn't required, I have offered my opinion and any thoughts expressed are my own.

Great narrator. Listened to this whole diamond painting and I really enjoyed the different stories.
Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I love this author so much. Every book I have read so far, I have really enjoyed. Silver Nitrate is another to add to the love list.
The thing I love most about this author's writing is the atmosphere the stories set when reading. I get so wrapped in the story that it's like waking up when I stop.
I absolutely love the dynamic between Tristan and Momo. I've had a friend like this before so I could relate. The magical realism was also a fun part for me. The darker parts...whew...it was eerie.
This one would actually be perfect for Spooktober and I wish I had gotten to it sooner. If you have this on your watchlist or just enjoy this author in general...grab this and give it a read.

The Handyman Method by Nick Cutter, Andrew F. Sullivan

Fantastic author and fantabulously gruesome and mildly terrifying story. I love The Shining and Amityville vibes I got with this one.
Perfect one for Spooktober and one to add to those lists.

Nutcracker Nightmare by Christina Romeril

This is such a fun cozy mystery series. A Nutcracker Nightmare was a quick read that was the perfect way to kick off my Christmas reading.
This time the twins are helping out with a high school reunion that goes wrong and attendees end up dead. Alex, the ever sleuthing wonder, decides to investigate which, of course, surrounds her in danger.
I absolutely love the twins and their Murder and Mayhem book and chocolate shop. I seriously wish there was something like this where I live. I also love the way Alex thinks things through as we follow along her investigation.
Perfect for cozy mystery fans. Definitely go grab this one, and the first book as well, and enjoy! I sincerely appreciate the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

A Beast Within by Aidan Lucid
fast-paced
4.0
I always enjoy this author's books. A Beast Within is another fast-paced and fun read. Perfect for Spooktober, especially for fans that love thrills without the gory chills.
I was surprised that I was actually rooting for the "bad guy". That doesn't happen often but in this instance it was a morally grey situation and that added to the story for me. I honestly wasn't expecting the layout as it happened at the end but I loved it.
I read this on a flight and it kept me engaged and before I knew it I was done and we were landing. Grab this one and add to those Spooky lists!
