Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle

a very fun book that also deals with some very heavy material, but I can’t overstate how refreshing it is to read a book so unapologetically autistic and queer
How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix

closer to 4.5 stars tbh, it was extremely enjoyable! the haunting was not at all what I anticipated but seeing it unfold was so fun and involved some deeply creepy imagery and events

extremely my kind of thing - a slowburn where almost nothing happens. I found it very compelling and the framing of the story really appealed to me. though not much technically happens, especially “on screen”, I keep thinking about it days later, turning different bits over in my mind
The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling
4.0
I quite enjoyed this - the protagonist is a fun and solid character, and I like the ideas about magic and ritual a lot
The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling
5.0
I hardly even know what to say about this book - I loved it, it was fascinating, hardly anything was actually explained and that’s exactly the way I wanted it. the sense of claustrophobia, of darkness, of timing, were all incredibly well done and helped to build one of the most compelling books I’ve ever read. caves are already horrifying enough, but this book expanded on that in ways both predictable and not. the very end felt slightly rushed but I can’t even be upset
Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes
3.0
I think this book suffered from my reading it immediately after Luminous Dead. don’t get me wrong, I liked it fine, and I do have a need for more sci-fi horror, but the writing, pacing, and storyline itself were nothing to write home about and the character development (or any depth of characterization at all) was seriously lacking. generally a fun enough and quick read but likely not one I’ll return to
