This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab

“She cracked a smile. "So what's your poison?"
He sighed dramatically, and let the truth tumble off his tongue. "Life."
"Ah," she said ruefully. "That'll kill you.”
This book was captivating! The entire book felt so smooth and effortless. The pace of the plot was phenomenal too. Throughout the book, I could feel the stress build and I knew that this book was going to hurt. And I was right. It did hurt.
I’ve never read a book specifically about monsters before. But the idea of violence making monsters is fascinating. It really made me feel for august.
I also found myself really enjoying Kates character development. I loved her at the start where she was burning buildings and holding knives to her schoolmates throat to trying to breaking out of handcuffs to try and help august.
I can’t wait to read the next book and hurt myself again.

Playette by T.L. Smith

"The things I keep don't usually survive. You don't want to be kept by me, Isadora.”
I’ve only recently discovered tl smith and her work but I’ve been obsessed ever since. And playette was just as addictive as her other work!
Isadora, a baddie, is on a mission of revenge after watching her family be murdered by jasper, daddy, and his gang. Izzy and her uncle have been plotting a way to take them down but how far will she have to go to complete her mission?

“Desire makes idiots of all of us. But you already knew that part, didn’t you?”
A queer polyamorous retelling of Dracula?!? SIGN ME UP. Ok but seriously this book starts off with a bang. Lemme tell you. Those quotes were in like first few pages.
Example A:
“If you can still hear me wherever you are, my love, my tormentor, hear this: it was never my intention to murder you.”
Example B:
“This is my last love letter to you, though some would call it a confession.”
The book is a love letter of sorts to her former husband/Lover who she killed. It shares beginning to end of their relationship and all the details/reasons leading up to it.
I honestly want to fill this review with a ton of quotes from the book but at that point you should probably just read it. I also have to mention that it was written BEAUTIFULLY.
One of the things I like best about the book is the character arc of Constanta. The slow arc of her growing stronger and realizing she can be strong and deserves better is so satisfying. The slow progression of the resentment and hatred or their creator/lover was done beautifully. It felt so realistic and something that we as humans would actually go through.
