Book #87 read in 2024

The title of this book makes it seem like a mystery, but in reality, it's a journey of self-discovery and recovery. Lenny is reclusive and introverted. She likes control and has trouble with social situations. At first, I wanted to compare her to Molly in The Maid, but Lenny was just harder to like. Once there was some context as to why Lenny was the way she was, it became easy to fall in love with her character. Lenny couldn't remember her childhood for the longest time, and when she does, we are treated to a heartbreaking and emotional journey of healing. Annie Maynard does a great job as Lenny's voice! If you loved The Maid, this one is for you.

Book #86 read in 2024

When Alice receives threatening messages every Wednesday, she must figure out why. Is it related to a story she's reported on, or is it something more personal? Alternating with Alice's story is the POV of her hired private investigator, whose character I loved. Finally, we get a glimpse into the mind of her stalker as his POV is also represented. This was a suspenseful and enjoyable read. There were a lot of red herrings before the stalker was revealed, and it was a great ending!

This was a quick read set over a weekend at a family wedding. It really is about the dynamics between the three sisters and their mother. As the weekend unfolds, the family tries to overcome the secrets and lies that have kept them apart over the years. While it is a family drama, it is also a quick read that is somewhat predictable but still enjoyable.

I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone who loves family drama set in two timelines. In the present day, we meet Mallory, whose son faces a health crisis and needs a new kidney, but his father doesn't know he exists. Mallory never told Monk that he had a child, and there's a reason why. Trying to find a donor for her son means she needs to dig into her mother's adoption to find her birth family and, hopefully, a match. This leads to 1951 when we Meet Hannah. She takes us on a ride of intrigue as she navigates a revolution with two different men.

How do these timelines tie together? Will Mallory finally tell Monk about his son? Will she share why she never told him in the first place? I could not put this down! Such a great read!

I probably chuckled more through this book than I was supposed to. It is a murder book, after all. Gwen tries a dating app to revive her love life, but when everyone she dates turns up dead, she becomes murder suspect number one. This should be a cautionary tale about online dating, but really, it's just good fun.

I was looking for a short thriller to listen to at bedtime. This fits the bill. It was a quick read. It's an interesting story, but because it was short, it didn't feel fully developed like Hunt's other thrillers.

If you're looking for a great summer read with witty banter, a little spice, and great friendships, this book is for you. Returning to their childhood camp for what may be their last camp reunion, this group of friends, including Clara and Mack, revisit old feelings and friendships. Some of this was predictable, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it.

This was a full-cast audio experience similar to old radio shows. It was 6 short stories, all taking place in Mistletoe with the same cast of characters. I enjoyed it a lot!

Billed as a cross between The Bachelor and Survivor, this was a modern, fun twist on romance. Orie thinks she's been asked to be on Survivor, but instead, she's cast in a spin-off show that is just as much a dating game as it is one of survival. And she finds out she's there with her high school crush, Remy. I loved the uniqueness of the competitions and how the "game" unfolded. This was great fun!

Another fantastic one in the series is when Eve and her team have to investigate a cop killer. While I figured out the whodunit pretty early, it was still a fantastic read. Gotta hand it to Susan Ericksen for her amazing narration as well!
