The Quince Project by Jessica Parra
3.5
Book #77 read in 2024
This one had a lot of humor and charm, even if the teenagers sometimes acted too old for their age and other times too young. The Disneyland vibes are strong, and so are the references to Disney, which adds to the whimsical elements of the book. Cas, trying to break into the party-planning world, misrepresents herself to a popular vlogger who then hires her to plan her quinceañera. My favorite characters were actually Cas's sister, Po, and the vlogger, Paulina, who have such a cute relationship. This was a cute, quick read that I think would be enjoyed by anyone looking for a charming escape.

If You Can't Take the Heat by Michael Ruhlman

I loved two things about this book: the setting, Cleveland in the 1980s, and the culinary world. This was a true depiction of the workings of a busy kitchen. However, the characters were not as easy to love. In fact, I found Theo to be a bit insufferable and Julia downright unlikable. Theo did have a great coming-of-age arc, and I ended up liking the story quite a bit overall.

The Paris Widow by Kimberly Belle

I will read anything Kimberly Belle writes because I love the roller coaster ride she takes us on. This book was no exception. Drama, intrigue, suspense, and a cat-and-mouse game kept me on the edge of my seat. The one thing that turned me off was that it took place in the world of antiquities and art. For some reason, personal preference only, I find that boring. But the high intensity more than makes up for that. This one should not be missed!

The Seaside Sisters: A Novel by Pamela Kelley

Book #74 read in 2024
This is my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. I will add her to the must-read summer books because of the lovely setting in Chatham, Cape Cod. This book follows two sisters and their aunt as they traverse life difficulties. While I expected the feel-good and self-discovery aspects of this book, there were many bumpy roads getting there. I really enjoyed this one!

Everything We Never Said by Sloan Harlow

I saw so much hype about this one, particularly a reel from the publishing company that made me super excited to read it. There was talk of a major twist, so I spent my time reading, trying to figure out what it could be. I was shocked, and I love the direction the book took!
I admit, I almost did not read this because of its comparison to Colleen Hoover, who I feel romanticizes abuse. I was concerned when the abuse storyline appeared in this book, but it was handled so well.
I would recommend this one for sure!

Annie LeBlanc Is Not Dead Yet by Molly Morris

Book #71 read in 2024
This is such an interesting premise, and I was excited to read it. A small town has a tradition every ten years of bringing someone back from the dead for 30 days. They run it as a contest, and the winner gets to pick who returns. This year, Wilson wins the contest and decides to bring back her ex-best friend, Annie, to see if she can figure out what happened in their friendship and repair it.
While this was different from anything I've read before, I had a hard time connecting with the characters or even really liking them, which made it hard to fall in love with the story. I do like the way Molly Morris writes, though, and I will definitely check out more from this author.

As a child, I loved listening to the radio dramas that were on every week. I felt so nostalgic when I was listening to this. The production and full cast were so entertaining. I enjoyed the story a lot, but what really made me like it was the way the audio was produced. I am in search of more full-cast audiobooks that are just as good!

Just Some Stupid Love Story by Katelyn Doyle

Book #69 read in 2024
I read so many great reviews on this that it became one of my most anticipated of the summer. A debut second-chance rom-com, I loved the characters in this book. Molly is a rom-com movie script writer who doesn't believe in romance, and Seth is a divorce attorney who believes in true love. That alone makes for an exciting story. Spanning several years, including the pandemic, Molly and Seth tangle and try to decide if their views on love might be the same after all.

Counting on a Cowboy by Sara Richardson

Book #68 read in 2024
I quickly realized it was the third in a series when I started this. While it can be read as a standalone, I did feel I was missing some of the connections and background. That being said, I really loved Thatch and Lyric. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, and this didn't disappoint. There were some heavy themes in it, so it might be necessary to look at the trigger warnings. I think Sara Richardson will be my go-to for cowboy romance, starting with the beginning of this series.

The Five Year Lie by Sarina Bowen

Book #67 read in 2024
Ariel gets a text from Drew asking her to meet him and tell no one. That is suspicious enough, but worse, Drew has been dead for five years. This begins a story of suspense and deceit that continues until the end. I was captivated by the story and couldn't put this down. I needed to know how it was going to end. One of the final plot points was a bit of a letdown, so I dropped the rating. But I can not wait to read more thrillers by this author (if she writes more 🤞🏻)!
