"It was still there, like a shadow in the back of my mind that I should be out there. With him. Where I belonged."

Jennifer L. Armentrout has done it again.
I don't think there will ever be a time when I wouldn't say I like her work. I don't want to jinx it, but I love her and her books.

I was scared when I dived into Fall of Ruin and Wrath. It's been on my TBR since it was released, but I didn't want to pick it up since it is a new series quickly, and we don't have the second book yet.
Am I regretting picking this up right now? YES, because I now have to wait after that cliffhanger, and the second book has not even been announced yet, so what am I supposed to do?!

I was scared during the first 50 pages because it was slow, but later, I enjoyed the slow burn and read.
Every page shows us the world, characters, and magic, so we learn about everything as the story progresses.

JLA does a great job of sprinkling the good surprises here and there, including how the character transitions to every scene and the chemistry.
I love the world's mystery, the "theories," and the secrets we are unravelling about who our characters really are.

For the last 200 pages, I thought I was having a heart attack; I was sweating, anxious, and scared of what was happening, especially to my girl Lis.

I look forward to the next book. I want the side characters to be more involved, and I want Lis to grow more. Hopefully, there will also be a POV chapter for Thrones.

“But don't forget that you'll always be my 13." She sniffled and wiped my cheek with her fingers. "My binding 13." I choked out a pained laugh, thinking about that stupid bet. "You heard about that?" "Yeah." Half-sobbing/ half-laughing, Shannon smiled and nodded. "I won.”

I think I have cried enough tears for this book.

“Because when it comes to you, Shannon Lynch, I’m all in.” “Me too.” “Where you go, I go.” “Promise?” “I promise.”

“Just on the other side, safety- not freedom. I'm leaving freedom behind, and I can feel the earth's grief when I get out of the car. The tired weeds try to encircle my ankles. begging me to stay. They murmur stories about my ancestors. The ones who stood right where I stand. The ones whose discoveries and civilization encompassed the whole world. The one whose blood runs through my veins. My footprints sink deep into the soil where theirs have long since been washed away. They plead with me: It's your country. This earth belongs to me and my children.”

What a beautiful story no doubt. How something in the times of tragedies and lost could be so painfully beautiful.
Zoulfa did an excellent job in her story writing of the characters, the country and all of their voices.

“And to all the Syrians who loved, lost, lived, and died for Syria. We will come back home one day.”

I'm giving this a full star for the women in the stories.
Of their stories, achievement, bravery and representation.

However, with the writing of the book.
I wished the stories were more in-depth rather than just stating facts.

“If he wanted to claim he loved me, then I had damn well better be the center of his entire universe. I wouldn’t be a favored toy to play with when it was convenient and cast aside when a better prospect came along.”

Wow, this went better than I expected.
It was truly a dark mafia romance ; with no filter in the blood, gore, action and some trigger warning stuff.

I love the balance of action and romance.
I'm definitely swoon over the romance and excited to see how our power couple progress.

"I married you because you're mine, Thalia. Nothing matters beyond that. Nothing."
