If you read my review of New Kid, you may remember me saying that this was the book I originally intended to read for my assignment on a Newbery winner. While I didn’t have time to read this book before my assignment was due, I did have it in my possession, so as soon as I was done with my assignment, I began reading The Last Cuentista. And am I ever glad I did... Read the full review here

New Kid was the first graphic novel to be awarded the Newbery Medal, and it definitely deserved it.
When my professor tasked us with reading a Newbery winner from the last 5 years, New Kid was not my first choice, but of my top two, it was the first one I could get my hands on. So, once again, my reading challenges have me reading a book that I very likely would not have picked up on my own otherwise. In part, I probably wouldn’t have picked it up because it’s almost 900 pages long and I just don’t have energy for that. I ended up tag-teaming this book by sometimes reading it in print and sometimes listening to the almost 40-hour-long audiobook. In this case, I much preferred the audiobook to the print edition, in part because the cast of narrators was just wonderful to listen to, and in part because I could do things while listening to pages and pages of exposition...
