These were…fine, I guess? As someone who has read a lot of sci-fi short stories, these largely felt like a collection that wouldn’t have been out of place a few decades ago. There were few ideas I hadn’t seen already elsewhere, and the character writing was generally flat. It was most interesting when he veered into the absurd (I enjoyed the dinosaurs in space).

I've tried this authors long form content and I just can't to get into it, but apparently I love their short stories.
In this collection the village teacher, mirror, full-spectrum barrage jamming and the thinker are my favorites.  The fire in the earth and sea of dreams were also interesting but not quite on the same level as the first ones I mentioned.

i like the stories this author can create, i just don't think it works in a short-story format. the level of thought and detail in his sci-fi worlds would work better as complete stories. i enjoyed the earlier stories the most, but as i kept reading, i started enjoying them less. you were just dumped into a whole different world every 40ish mins and it was hard to grasp some of the characters and plot lines (especially the russian one).
