Cute, though fairly unrealistic. In real life, the dogs would go nuts in their hotel if they didn't have constant human attention.

Listened to the audio book for a book challenge where the prompt was "hotel".
I've never seen the movie and if it is anything like the book, I'd rather not. Even the likeable characters annoyed me. Why so much cat hate? And the blatant, casual talk of animal abuse?
The ending was probably the best written part, but entirely unbelievable. The whole book is just about siblings getting annoyed with each other and them lying to pretty much everyone they speak to.

The book was not as good as I thought it would be after watching the movie

Cute, but not realistic. This version was updated to modern times and had the main character's name and the name of the stray dog she finds changed to match those of the movie. Kids would enjoy it.
Katherine Kellgren did a fantastic job narrating.

Cute children's novel. Would have finished it a lot quicker if it hadn't been for college...

The kids and I started listening to this, maybe 30 minutes of it, and never really wanted to keep listening. The story/audio must not have gotten us that interested.

I read this with my 1st grader and we both had a hard time getting through it. There were many parts that lagged and while it was a cute story and holds up to current times (it was written in 1971), it didn't keep my daughter engaged or engrossed. I think she finished it mostly to earn the treat of watching the movie together, which was also a disappointment. I would say to read, it would be good for a 2nd grader and up. My 1st grader was able to read it but it was slow going and at times, a chore for her because she couldn't read it fast enough.
