Fantastic dystopian novel, I was interested in the story from page one.

A dystopian novel set after the fall of a government watched your every move from a device implanted in your eye. But it gets more and more deep as the story goes on.

I really enjoyed this, an adult dystopian novel with a missing person case melded into it. I should have read this one sooner because I think it is one of the better books I’ve read this year. Sonya goes through so much growth and it’s a pleasure to watch.

I loved hearing about the prior government and how it measured up to the new government. In some ways I wish we had gotten a better taste of that government, but we got to live it through Sonya’s eyes.

If you want to read an adult dystopian novel, with loss, tenacity, and redemption this one is for you. The twists and turns are somewhat predictable, but so worth it.

Ps: the audiobook is really good

This will make a great movie if they rewrite the ending, even though it is a perfect ending for the book. I couldn't put it down but had to because, well, work.

A rather unlikeable narrator and an uninspiring romance meant I wasn't as invested in this book as I would have liked, however the mystery of how everything would tie up in the end kept my attention, and the fairly stark and barebone writing style held a rapid pace in a depressingly bleak dystopian world gone to shit.

I am always fascinated by the ideas Roth presents in her blurbs - for Chosen Ones it was "what do the saviours of the world do after the world is saved", and for this book it's a question of "what does the ubiquitous face of the oppressive regime do once the regime is inevitably overthrown". I'm not sure this theme was explored to the extent that the blurb implied it would be, but it's still an intriguing prospect to chew on, outside of the limitations of the world building chosen to structure this particular book.

I found it very slow to read until the very end, which is quite sad... I expected the book to be more focused on the plot rather than the character's thoughts, something more like Divergent.

However, I very much enjoyed the dystopian environment, I think Veronica Roth is becoming a true expert and I have nothing but praise for her!!! I was just looking for a story to develop within the book, not the book being about the dystopian system itself...
