Cute but ultimately unsatisfying short story. I enjoyed the Julie POV, but the story felt like shorthand - very rushed and like it could have been developed to AT LEAST novella length. At the end we're told Julie has "made friends", but we didn't spend enough time with her and other characters to see any friendships develop.

Re-reading the series with the Ilona Andrews Addicts, before 'Magic Binds' comes out in September 2016. Hadn't planned to re-read all the shorts and novellas as well, but changed my mind. Will try to read parallel to the main series.

Read first on July 25, 2015.

Nice little short story, told from Julie's POV, at the end of [b:Magic Breaks|12119529|Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7)|Ilona Andrews|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1383236969s/12119529.jpg|17088822]. Julie thinks that Kate tries to manipulate her into liking the school she picked for her.

“I’m older, wiser, and I know better. Deal with it.”
Parenting, kick-ass Kate Daniels’s style.

I think Julie sounds a little too mature at times. Yu Fong is a nice addition.

I liked seeing Julie get her own story, and from her perspective even, so readers get a better idea how her powers work. I would like to see more about Julie in this school - especially considering the friends (maybe enemies?) that she makes during her investigation.

I really only got into the Ilona Andrews story Magic Tests and the Charlaine Harris story Playing Possum. I usually really like short story books because they give you a great place to break but his time I just wasn't feeling it.

This review is only for Iphigenia in Aulis. At first, I thought it was going to follow very closely to the novel [b:The Girl With All The Gifts|17235026|The Girl with All the Gifts|M.R. Carey|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403033579s/17235026.jpg|23753235], but it was surprisingly actually very, very different! Set in the United States, with a LOT more background information, and a very different chain of events, I'm glad for the changes [a:M.R. Carey|7177350|M.R. Carey|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1388910761p2/7177350.jpg] made when reworking the story into a novel-length work.

I only read this for Ilona Andrews short story involving Julie from her Kate Daniels series. Julie goes to a school to help solve a case of a missing girl. I really thought the short story was well written. It makes me interested in more books from Julie / a YA POV and I think that show the authors's versitality.

I didn't read any of the other stories. Not really into anthologies generally. Probably my loss, but I did enjoy the story in it that I wanted to read.
