A good light summer read

Not a legal thriller Grisham but a fun quick read about amateur American football in Italy.

It was a quick and easy read.

I don’t know where I found this book but despite the fact that I don’t care about football, I really enjoyed this book. I love the intimate details of Italy and of its food. Quick, enjoyable read.

Totally annoying book. I've read and enjoyed plenty of Grisham, but this one was baaaaad. The writing seemed lazy. Granted, it was about football and I'm not a fan, but a good writer can pique your interest in subjects you normally find mundane. Plus the main character was one-dimensional and dull as dishwater - no interior life worth mentioning. Should be an interesting book club discussion!

This book is about Rick, a disgraced NFL star who finds himself with the prospect of playing football in Italy, as no other U.S. team will take him.

I don't know much about football, but I can understand what's going on, and it was pretty funny. It moves a bit slow for a Grisham book, but it was enjoyable just the same.

I came across this book when it was listed as a giveaway on World Book Night. I read the summary and was excited because I love football. By about 50 pages into the book I had a feeling I was going to be extremely disappointed. I was so bored reading about all the different foods being served at meals I was screaming "Get back to football!!" I found the book to be very predictable and I never liked any of the characters so it was really hard to care about what was happening.

I’m giving it four stars because it assumed I knew the rules of football. Despite that, I loved the court and the football scenes. I also enjoyed learning about the Italian art and architecture. The best part of the football was Charley Crays articles.

I don't like football, but I really enjoyed the book. I actually started it during the game on Sunday (which I didn't watch)and apparently the game and the book have a couple of things in common. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I love Italy and I love Italian food (this book made me crave it) but I found I really started to get into the football aspect of the story. Plus I liked the characters. Even if football isn't your favorite, it's worth a read.
