We get a lot of information on this one, but it also introduces some questions

There's some good details but I didn't like the story in this one as much

It was cute, even if it didn't add much to the story. It felt a bit repetitive at times, but it does explain aspects of Escaping from Houdini that were a bit confusing

I did not like this one as much as the previous two. I never connected to the main storyline and the romance drama felt a bit forced

I found most of this volume pretty boring. The only stories I liked were:
  • The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether
  • The Angel of the Odd
  • The Oblong Box

I enjoyed it immensely, but there are several aspects of this novel that I found bad and/or ridiculous. Part of the worldbuilding is well done, and part of it is super vague.

The good:
  • I liked the concept of the Drop and getting to choose at which point you wish to become immortal. It also adds a different dimension to Bryce not doing the Drop after Danika dies. You actually need a friend/loved one to make the Drop safely, which means that lonely people are more at risk of dying.
The Wolf Pack's death and Bryce's grief. Bryce is quite a well-developed character in general, and I love that it takes her the whole novel to make peace with what happened.
I liked the romance, it takes its time. And they talk about their stuff rather than rely on stupid misunderstandings to create fake drama. I also loved Ruhn and Bryce's relationship.
    Messenger otters!
People being shit online and talking about people they don't know having a massively negative effect on our mental health
Some of the reveals feel very natural, as in hindsight there were enough hints. For example, Hypaxia and the synth.
I loved that in the one sex scene we get they have to stop because Hunt is hurt. It didn't just keep going for sexytimes's sake.

The bad:
  • The humans in this world are completely oppressed, have no government representation, are used and abused, and yet Briggs gets labelled a terrorist by the main characters.
Bryce being the most specialist girl in the universe. I liked the idea of her not having special powers. I loved the fact that she did the right thing and went head first into danger even though she wasn't anyone special. But now she is even more powerful than her father. This feels less interesting to me.
Bryce constantly says that Jesiba has cameras everywhere and that Hunt is not allowed on the store and yet they hang out in Jesiba's library all the time.
The reveal that Hunt was trying to get synth to help the revolution was crazy. We were in Hunt's brain for half the novel and he never seemed to care about this at all. And suddenly he risked everything when he was closer than ever to gaining back his freedom. It was absurd, it came out of nowhere, and it was clearly just included to create drama. However, this could have been achieved in a way that made sense, and not the way it was written.
Bryce trying to trade her life for Hunt's was melodramatic, over-the-top and absurd.
I found Bryce being the Horn completely ridiculous.
There are no real consequences: Bryce and Hunt have killed archangels and they are not punished for it, there is no tension whenever Hunt is in danger because he has clear plot armor, the city gets magically rebuilt, everyone is cured, nothing that happens is public information, the Asteri are not going to act and in fact Hunt gets a reward in the form of his freedom.

Just a short story about two girls during one particular summer. It feels nostalgic and real, and the illustrations are gorgeous, I love the drawing style

I like the whole "kill nostalgia" vibe that this series has

This is very badly written. The romance is insta-love, the protagonist is over 30 but acts like a 12-year-old and the plot makes no sense at any point
